I was givin Photoshop 7.0 for a gift but no manual, how do you take a .jpg image and convert it into a alpha plane image?

Yes he bought it for a school class then droped out and lost intrest in photography. He also said he Photoshop was to hard to learn, lack of patience I guess? Anyway he has moved away and I have know way of contacting him to see if he can get the users manual for me.

cryodragon, you can contact Adobe customer service department and ask for a replacement manual to be sent.
Please keep in mind if your friend registered Photoshop when he first installed it, he will need to transfer his license to you in order for Adobe to view you as the legitimate owner. This may pose some problem if as you say, he is unable to be contacted...
Please ALSO keep in mind Renderosity's "zero tolerence" in regards to "warez" (this includes using warez)
You'll find members helpful, but rather leary to offer help if they feel someone is using illegal software...
As for the steep "learning curve" for Photoshop... ;) i'm constantly learning!!!
go through the online manual by hitting the F1 and give it a look through...
as to your original question... not sure if you mean an "alpha" channel...

I went out and bought a book and went to my local library I think I can figure it out now. Yes it is a steep learning curve. Jet engines are easy to figure out compared to this program. But givin some time I well get it. Thanks.

Well, if you got such a grand gift, good for you! I did suspect an illegal copy, so I did not ellaborate too much. A good book is a good start. And hours of practise ofcourse. Good luck & feel free to ask!

You will be suprised how many people do not have a clue on how to fix there autos or maintain them.Thanks though I did figure out how to create a Alpha plane, only if I can remember how I did it.

You probably needed an alpha mask, to put on a plane (for a tree or something). Because alpha channels are made of grayscale values (256 of 'em), you probably converted your jpg to grayscale (via modus -> greyscale) and saved it in an appropriate file format. You just reminded me I still do have to check the oil in my car. I am glad they did put yellow paint on the handle of the long thingy you have to pull out of that large chunk of iron in the front of the car that gets hot after driving. (I guess I am one of those people)

I am pretty sure thats what I did? I got it now though. I send the converted images into Vue Esprit 4. Now if I can find another sucker out there with Lightwave 7 who does not know a darn thing about car engines. Ha Ha.

LightWave? Is that a program? Could it accidently be sold in a squarebox with pictures on it and a sort of plasticy white thing that vaguely looks like a dragon? I remember having a couple of boxes of those in the cellar. I thougt it was canned light, waiting for WW III. That's why I bought 8 of them. You can have one for, say, 10 bucks? Because of the Russians going all friendly and all, I was going to throw them away anyway.
