I'm just learning Cararra 2 and according to the manual it can import Adobe Illustrator paths. It recognizes the file but when I try it nothing shows up. What am I missing?

You may have already, but make sure your Illustrator file is saved in version 8.0 or less. Carrara won't read Illustrator files higher than 8.0.

I tried all versions of illustrator. It recognizes 8 and below and gives me the choice of importing as 3DMF, DXF and wavefront. Of course I'm not sure what options to pick for each choice but each time nothing shows up in the workspace. Hmmmm.

It sounds like you are trying to import an AI file into something other than the spline modeler. The spline modeler will allow you to import only ai, ai3 and eps files. Keith

I've done a few logo inports for clients, and the AI importer ONLY works in the spline modeler. If you need to, convert to vertex after importing, for UV mapping, sub-division, etc. I also found that depending on how many points are in the .ai the importer may take awhile to finish creating the model. If they placed 200 ponts on the curves then C has to recognize each, convert it to the points on the cross-section, then extend to the next point on the extrusion line. Good luck!
