I probably have a lot of extra stuff in the texure and geometries folders. I know I hardly use most of the stuff I kept, but someday I may need it. Poser5 Runtime - 10GB Poser4 Runtime - only the bare essentials

4.3 gigs, and that doesn't include the external hard drive or 100 or so CD's that I have burned. It wasn't the size of the folder that got me it was the number of folders and files in them. The funny thing is that I am running poser lite, I don't have near all the stuff that I had loaded that I used before my crash a couple of weeks ago...

36.2 Gig for 76,205 items! Looks like I need to do some culling. :) Poser is on it's own 80 gig HD

Now that some of us have reach insanity with the sizes of our Runtimes, I've noticed a lot of you have a lot with Poser 5. Since I just upgraded to Poser 5 (Mac), is it easier to oranize your stuff with P5? I know that I have stuff that I could use if it wasn't lost in the shuffle!
Dave-So posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 8:30 AM
It is supposed to be easier...but mine is still in one big chunk.... :) But you can do subfolders, and also multiple runtimes, so conceivably you could put all the Michael stuff in one runtime (except M3 which HAS to be in the main Runtime, from what I've read)..etc etc... Certain items have to remain in the main runtime...

How much can be fit on a DVD???? Can you install the runtime on a CD or DVD ???? would serve dual purpose...save hd space, and archive.

6.5 GB total... ...and fortunately, I just bought a DVD-R +/- burner to pack it all in, so that restoration will be a snap (Geometries and textures in one DVD, Libraries on another one, etc... then I just re-install Poser and copy the relevant directories from DVD to the hard drive.) Then again, what if I zipped the Runtime before backing it up? Hrm - I can squeeze it all onto one disc... something I've been unable to do for nearly two years now :) /P

I am wondering.. You people with the HUGE runtimes... Do you save pz3's to the Runtime? Or IS it just files installed into Poser? Personally I save all pz3's to a separate folder, then as soon as there's enough to fit a CD (sometimes that's only 1 or 2 files!!!) they get burned onto that and deleted from my HD to save some space :o)

I put some of my PZ3 in the runtime folder when I need them for reference, or when I'm working on them. When I'm done with them, I put these PZ3 on a different drive. Currently, my PZ3 folder weighs 2,35 Gb.

Sigh. Only 18.4gigs in -my- P4 runtime..... But when I add in the P5 runtime, and the external folder where I keep all the textures I've tweaked a bit, I get 22.1 gigs! Over the hump at last! God, I just love hearing some poor soul brag about how close they are to filling up the 20 gig HDD that came with their system...and blinking once or twice before commenting that I have one -program- that eats up more real estate than that... >;P
Dale B posted Fri, 31 October 2003 at 7:19 AM
And Now You Know The Truth, compiler. When HAL said 'I'm Sorry, Dave, but I can't do that', he was actually talking about his 1 x 10 cubed NVIATWS render (what else was there to do on the way to Jupiter....?)!

My P5 runtime is 6.01 Gb. Are there any limits on the number of objects in the library? Vat happened if I have to many items?
TG
TrekkieGrrrl posted Fri, 31 October 2003 at 3:29 PM
Torulf, whether or not there's a limit depends on if you're using Poser 4 or 5. On Poser 4 there is a limit of 256 entries in each folder, but long before that limit is reached, you will notice that the names becomes truncated, up to a point where only a few letters are visible. If you exceed the limit you just won't be able to access the stuff at the bottom of your list. In that case, your only hope (short of deleting) is to get PBooost. (from the MP here) But as far as I know Poser 5 hasn't got that limit.
