hmm, i just read a Daz's newsletter... and I think i read you guys are gonna have the daz studio thingy "by thanksgiving"... that's a whole 26 days to wait still. I might be wrong though... believe it or not, it wouldn't be the first time in my life that I'm wrong :) Max

But it will be an occasion for thanksgiving whenever we get D|S (croosses fingers), so that isn't informative at all (or does "Thanksgiving" have some special significance in the Colonies?).

I want to complain about my HD reaching meltdown with the freebies I got for renewing and that there great big Freak thingy and the half price sale. I think they should provide free HD's for all of us to store this stuff on. It's a diabolical liberty, I tell you.

Yeah - it wasn't all DAZ (quite - some PoserPros & RDNA) but with the Freak and the sale I downloaded over 400MB yesterday.

I told my Bank Manager all my money had gone on DAZ and he wasn't impressed :( He said... why would anybody need that much washing powder..? :(

Thanksgiving is a time where all your in-laws descend upon your house to eat food that took you hours to cook and was hot and perfectly prepared 2 hours ago but it now cold and soggy because they couldn't be bothered to show up when they promised. Food includes mutated turkey monsters, cranberry jelly (a red-purple polymer that a few deluded souls try to eat each year), stuffing (store bought sawdust or home-made goo), and a cornecopia of carbohydrates, fats, and sugar - enough to feed a small nation for a week. After stuffing themselves full of food, all the guys sit on the couch watching American football, giving thanks that they didn't have to help cook or clean up. The women do all the cleaning, giving thanks that they don't have to do this much work again until Christmas. In many families, it's also a time to catch up on all the nearly-buried grudges and repressed traumas that everyone pretends don't exist the rest of the year. There's a reason people tend to call the holiday Turkey Day now. For some of us, the day ends up being a real turkey. : Cres (Why, yes, the in-laws are coming over shortly, can't you sense my excitement?) ;-)

pakled, I was thinking the same thing. The more anticipation there is, the more of a letdown there will be when it finally comes out. I'm not saying it's going to suck, but remember it's only a beta version with very limited features. I'm holding my breath for the full blown release.
SamTherapy posted Sat, 01 November 2003 at 12:35 PM
pakled and pzrite - I'm not holding my breath for any version, not really. However, I would love to get my hands on a practical alternative to Poser ASAP. Even if the thing has more bugs than the Kremlin it will be great to get in on the ground floor. DAZ seem to be really responsive to the wishes of the community, so it's gonna be interesting to see how the thing shakes down. I am getting more than a little pissed off with Poser's idiosyncrasies, and I'm very reluctant to move to P5. DAZ's alternative seems to be the way for me to go, once the bugs are squished.

If the items in the screen shots we've seen aren't just static props it looks like the initial release is going to do considerably more than the glorified Poser render engine we were originally promised for the first beta: that may well account for some of the delay. Of course, a bit more delay would be better than lots of bugs but I would think that, given the small gap between announcement and due date, they feel confident of delivering.

"By thanksgiving". I believe this is an american custom that involves the sacrifice of a turkey and a native american princess (got this piece of american customs knowledge from The Addams Family 2). But can you please tell a bewildered frenchie when is the date of thanksgiving, so that I know when Daz Studio is due ? (I guess from the posts above that it may be 26 November, but I'd like to be sure). Thanks in advance.

Thanksgiving is never on a Certain Day..It is always the 4th Thursday of November.. In this case 2003, it falls on November 27th...

I heard that the release date was "The Twelfth of Never" but...maybe that was just a song. ~lol~

Whah! It's 12:01am on November 1 and I still don't have my pre-pre-beta version of DAZ Studio that may or may not work on my Windows 98 machine with only 128M of RAM, a 10G hard drive, and a 450Mhz processor. Whah! I want my beta version now! Now, I say! Now! And, no, I didn't learn my lesson with Poser 5. I want it now! I don't care if it's finished or not, it's better to have a half-working program than none at all. So what id it crashes every time I use it? So what if my system is WAY below the stated system requirements. I want it now!!! Here's my credit card, so they can send me the crapware in a nice, pretty box, when it's ready. So what if CD #2 has missing content. So what if the manual has typos and incorrect instructions. I want it now!
