I'm looking to create MPEG1 files from AVI for use on VCD (videoCD). Does anyone know what software I'm going to need to do this and where to get it? I'd prefer something not too expensive - this is a one off rather than something I'm going to be doing very often Paul

Hey Paul, how about free? Someone a few months ago posted a link to a free AVI to MPEG1/MPEG2 converter. It also has an option for Video CD (never tried it). It works great and I use it all the time. It might be available here: http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1 ....a URL in the readme.txt. If you can't get it, send me an emil at: krel@infi.net ...and I can send it to you (it's small). Krel

Hi Paul, i agree to Krel, its a great tool if you need some other video stuff you can just ask me, I'm running my own media agency, we do lot of music videos and all sorts of stuff and deal with video formats from web to broadcast. to clean or capture files i can suggest you the best of the best "virtualdub" its free, just look in altavista, i don't know the exact link if you want to do some nonlinear editing i suggest ulead media studio pro 6.0, it's got a build in mpeg1/2 encoder and is not that expensive, but great for editing upon working with mpeg2, be sure to have the right codec installed :-) btw, lots of the common graphic cards ship with mpeg compression tools, have a look -Ede
