Hi folks,
Today we are proud to announce the immediate availability of Ground Control. Ground Control is a digital elevation model importer with support for classic USGS DEMs and VistaPro format DEMs. Ground Control's Smart Weighting generates more accurate meshes than simple grayscale converters. With Ground Control, you can import DEMs as a Mesh, Anything Grooves, Terrain, or the new Ground Control primitive.

Read all about Ground Control at
http://www.digitalcarversguild.com/products/gc/

And see a comparison of grayscale converters vs. Ground Controls Smart Weighting and the Ground Control primitive at
http://www.digitalcarversguild.com/products/gc/galleryframe.htm

You can download and try out Ground Control from the following spots. In evaluation mode, Ground Control will zero out blocks of the imported file.

The best place to get great DEM files is the U.S. Geological Survey at http://edc.usgs.gov/geodata/ . Select the 1:250K DEM link.

"In evaluation mode, Ground Control will zero out blocks of the imported file." Can you elaborate on this? I think I understand the basics: it will interpolate or smooth out a low-resolution DEM file to allow better scaling than Terrain would do.

This is what I'm talking about for evaluation mode. I want a potential customer to be able to see how it works, but for it to not be too useful without the customer making the purchase.

Can it read the dem files coming form Vistapro 4.0 data cd disk (bought from ROMTECH some years ago). Thanks

Martial, It should, it's able to read all the vistapro DEM files that I have thrown at it. You could always download and try it out. When the serial number dialog comes up, hit Cancel to go into evaluation mode. It should import the file looking like the image above. If you find one that it cannot import, please let me know (at support@digitalcarversguild.com) and, if possible, include the DEM or point me to where I can get it. Those blocks are I think 64 samples by 64 samples. On a Vistapro DEM which are usually 258x258, you will only see a few blocks. Regards, Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild 3D plug-ins for Carrara http://digitalcarversguild.com
