Hey people. I was just wondering on a couple of things. The first is, how do you normally create rocks in Vue? Like boulders and stuff I mean, as well as smaller ones. The only feature I envy of Bryce4 is the rock generator. Secondly, does extra RAM accelerate rendering times, or is that all up to your CPU? I'm guessing the latter... Thanks!

Rocks... Good question. Vue comes with 3 but that obviously isn't very many. Probably have to make them elsewhere and import them. I believe Ram has a very noticable effect but can't back that up with anything official.
Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

Extra Ram does'nt speed the render time, only a highter CPU can do that. I use a PII 300, it's not much, but it's OK. The Ram is important (mine is 128) if you use a lot of objects in Vue. More Ram can afford more objects with more polygones, but if there is only a low CPU, working speed is slowing things down while you work with these polygone objects. As Arcady said, Vue comes with only 3 "rocks" (stones), but you can create rock illusion in using the stone arch principe (page 198 in the english user Guide of Vue 3).

three?? my vue has more than three rocks. it has, like, five. in one of the sample mesh directories under 'load object.' i also make groups of rocks with the terrain editor. either as is, or flattened out, i throw on a lot of 'stones' and 'pebbles.' (third tab in the terrain editor thing on the right.) then you can clip the lower altitudes, or just bury the terrain in another terrain fro grounded rocks and boulders. the bryce rock generator was cool (it only had about four or five shapes, though), and i also miss the symmetrical lattice. :/

Here's my two cents: Making your own boulders and rocks in Vue is easy. See my pic in the gallery called "Lake Vue". The rocks in the foreground were all made in the terrain editor. All you do is make a terrain, go into the editor (double click the terrain or right click and choose "Edit"), and I like to filter the altitude to about half way before I start making the individual rocks. Then I make some mounds until I think it looks "bumpy" enough, and paint the ground away in between the bumps. After I achieve the look I want, I smooooooth them out and voila! Stones suitable for creeks, rivers, lakes or anywhere you'd care to put them. Hope it helps :) Ta ta, Laurie
