I may have asked this before, but old guys have very short term memory. If I want to produce animation to be edited in Premiere and ultimately played on a standard U.S. TV, what settings should I use if I want good quality? I'm wondering about screen size, resolution, frames per second, and so on.

I am currently doing some DVD tests. NTSC DVDs are 720x480 at 30fps. I think 24fps is also supported.

I like the 16/9 format. I made this screen test that shows in front of the movie for about 10 seconds, and I only made 2 DVDs so far:

DVD1: 5 seconds scene in 3 different resolutions: 720x480, 720x440, 720x400. The last 2 are padded with black borders to make them 480 high. 30fps.
Result: 1) 30fps is very smooth 2) My DVD/TV don't show the first 2 pairs of black squares and the numbers 720 don't show. Actual visible horizontal resolution is only about 640, I don't understand why. 3) TV pixels are not square: The circle on the test screen look like an oval. Vue has an option for rectangular pixels but I see no difference in the results.

DVD2: 640x400 resized in PSP to 640x356, then padded with black borders to 720x480. 24 fps.
result: 1) 24fps not good. Every 5th frame is duplicated to bring the film at 30fps and it's not smooth. But this may be caused by NeoDVDPlus that I use to create the DVD. It's a simple program that came with the DVD burner with no options for fps. 2) I had a bit of distortion on the vertical edges of the screen: 640 is a bit tight. 3) The circle is not perfect but almost 4) The resulting image is very close to be 16/9

Next test: 660x400 resized to 660x360, 30fps. Should be able to do it in a few days.

So basically, it's trial and error...
