In the material room attach the displacement to the texture and set the displacement value to 0.0025. That should fix it.

Thanks... I appreciate the quick reply. However, I'm still pretty new at this, and the materials room usually leaves me gasping. Could you be a bit more specific? For the hair prop, there is the usual array of surface values, one of which is "displacement". It does not have a dial, so I assume I would attach a node here, but I'm not sure which one to use. Alternatively, there is also an existing texture file node, but nothing in its options refers to displacement. Mike

After you do so, you can enter a value in the Displacement channel.
Remember to enable displacement in your Render Options, also.
