Try the Nasa and JPL sites,.......I know that BamBam and some other members have used texes from those sites in their images.

actual mats can be found at Wolfie's Den, of several of the planets (even Saturn's rings).

Sneak peak at an image I am working on from the above mentioned Blue Marble with a little touch up in Photoshop.

These are the best planetary maps I have ever found. Some of the larger ones cost a few bucks. But there are smaller versions of all the planets for free. They are also set-up for spherical mapping.

Well at least for the earth StephenRay I wouldn't really pay anything for as BlueMarble has them for free and the largest res I have seen (brought the ol puter to its knees!)

Here's my use of Blue Marble (rendered this morning). I downloaded the cloud picture and mapped it to a separate sphere slightly larger than the landmass one. Not sure if it makes much difference, but would look good in an animation if you rotate it at a slightly different speed. There's a third sphere with the green light texture (changed to white) to give the glow.

I reckon the best earth mats are here. 4096 square mats for bump, colour, specularity and a cloud map.
