In my last image I used the term 'Boolean Terrain'. There maybe another name for it but here's how. In short, it is a method for roughing up a primitive. How to:
Add a primitive (cylinder, cube, sphere)
Add a terrain
Flip terrain 180 degrees (optional, or any degrees)
Select primitive, shift select terrain and click boolean difference.
Thats it.
By adjusting the terrain, you can change the level of roughness. By manipulating the terrain (eg do it by a picture), you have a stamping tool. Let your imagination run from here.
