Ok...why the patch?

Zhann posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 6:41 PM

Fixes some bugs in the tree lab, but I found if I install the patch, that I have a devil of a time in the DTE getting things to work, so I opted to not deal with the tree issue and retain use of the DTE....however, that might be just my computer.....

Nope it's not just you Zhann. I've got to be very careful if I'm doing a lot of work at one time in the DTE, 'cos if I've used it a lot it will crash the whole thing on me. That's usually just when I think I should save what I'm working on and then it's all lost. But it also has a good point, the patch gives you a load of trees in .bto format. You can only use these in Bryce of course but they are generally much better than what comes out of the tree lab and if you want you can still take them into the tree lab and play about. 8) Catlin

Nice to know it's not just me....:) I'm working on modeling a decent set of trees in another app, so the tree lab really isn't a concern, I much rather be able to use the DTE trouble free....

I bought Tree Druid last week, but as yet my efforts are a little backwards. lol 8) Never mind though, with a bit of practice I'm sure I'll get there, and I've seen some amazing trees made with it which gives me hope. 8) Catlin

Oddly enough, Bryce 5.01 locked up on me tonight. First time in over two years. I had other problems though and had some app, wowexe, causing the problem. Firewalls were up. I had just been on the machine for about an hour when it happened. No sign of problems when I shut down the other day. I'll have to research this a bit. Was a huge memory hog and slowed icq down a lot. Irc and Poser worked just fine. I typically have Bryce, Poser, icq, irc, outlook, pbooost, norton, some audio controllers, grouper, P3D0, and a few IE 6 and some smaller apps going at once and rarely ever have a problem. Reboot fixed it. I RARELY EVER have to reboot.

I've had the patch installed for maybe a year and a half or so, and I've had maybe two DTE lock ups in that time. Not enough to be a big downside for me.

Zhann you can find Tree Druid at the link and I believe there is a demo to try out. They've got a special on at the moment and it is selling for $99. I'll do just about anything to get away from using the tree lab and being able to use the DTE properly without crashing. lol 8) Catlin

I checked it out, the Demo is just for THOR, the Tree Druid only has a PDF download....:(

Oh sorry about that, but that Thor looks interesting too. I think I'll get the demo and try it out. Which program are you using for tree construction? Catlin

Believe it or not, I'm trying in Wings, downloaded a tut, sorta, from the forum on how to do it....
