Subject: Which render is better, and getting the best of both?

Is it too small? I like the facial detail on the right, but the left seems to have more detail overall. That said, the right also seems to have better 'mood'. Any opinions on these, and how I could improve lighting overall? I think the right was done in volumetrics.
