It occurs to me that Posette, Dork, Maya Doll, Neftoon, Koshini and LaRoo are good names for Poser figures, while Victoria, Michael, Judy, Don, Stephanie, Sara, Dina etc are not. Why? Because the former are unambiguously figure names, while the latter could be characters. I may have a character called Judy that uses the Victoria figure, and if I post a picture here entitled "Judy" it will cause some confusion. But if I post a picture of my character Jess (based on Posette) there is no confusion. So I propose (not very optimistically) that henceforth the figure marketed as "Victoria" will be referred to as "Dazette", and the figure "Michael" will be referred to as "Mork". Would anyone like to propose some new figure names for "Stephanie", "Judy", "Don" and the rest of the bunch?

Hmm while I get your point, I think it should have been the other way around. The FIGURES has their names, they're mor or less "born" with them, whereas CHARACTERS are derived from them, so they ought to have last names too, like Elizabeth de NefToon (for a Neftoon based character) or Jeff Michaels (for a Michael based character) Mork is an insult to Mike btw LOL Dork got his name coz he LOOKS like a dork. Michael... If anything, let's call him Fark ;o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

We've got Don and Judy, I'm still waiting for John, Maureen, Penny, Will, and especially Dr. Smith.

I'd be happy if the names just came up within Poser, whatever they are, so we wouldn't end up with "Figure 1," "Figure 2," "Figure 3," etc., and have to guess which is which. I'm tired of trying to remember whether "Figure 4" is Vicky's underwear or Mike 3.

You can rename them every time, randym. Load in Vicky, she's figure 1. Select Figure 1's body. Go to Object Properties and change the name. Save that file.

Why don't we de-personalize the base figures? We could call them by names like "Female Human Unimesh Number One", or "FHUNO", for short. Likewise, the male figure would be called "MHUNO".

Penny and Will are in Poser 5 IIRC they are the kids.

Perhaps we could expand upon this catagorization system -- "Fat Female Human Unimesh Number Two" - "FFHUNT" Or, alternatively, she could be called "Number Two".

Actually I suspect the reason for naming the figures is make them more personable to the customer. I prefer Michael and Victoria to DAZman and DAZwoman. You can always rename your character after making a custom morph or texture.

I was kidding, of course.

DAZman and DAZwoman - isn't there a movie coming out based on the comic book?

The problem with Victoria is the "V". It causes confusion with some add-on products that use "V" to mean "Version". I've seen "V2" things that I thought were for my Vicky and turns out they were version 2 of something or other entirely unrelated. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Also, the name Don is silly. It's old-fashioned and just makes me think of a duck. Judy is even more old-fashioned - a 50s housewife. Apologies to all the real Dons & Judys out there. If they're going to use real names, classic ones like Michael and Victoria work better IMO.

Well Victoria and Michael always get contracted to Vicky and Mike anyway so naming them Donald and Judith wouldn't have made any real difference. We could go to a Borgian style numbering system, ala "7 of 9, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero-One," but only if they look fantastic in catsuits.
