I am fixin' to go nuts trying to figure this out... Okay, after following the tutorials here and at JHoagland's site, and after loads of experimenting, I still can't get the reflection to look right. Why does it look "dithered" or splotchy like that? I'm using the ground plane with no texture for my surface. Using P5 with latest verion update. Please help... =)

Are you using raytraced shadows?

I have had this effect before when using a prop which isn't of a high enough resolution. It may be that the prop doesn't have enough resolution? Have you tried applying a reflection-map instead of raytrace, and see how that comes out?

How do I tell if it's high enough resolution? And how do I do reflection maps? LOL I've used both, Stewer, with the same result. This image here doesn't have raytraced shadows.

I posted this problem several months ago - there was no solution - and I tried everything suggested - I finally skipped the picture. May be somebody can solve it now. Mungo

The gun is not made from double-sided polygons, I hope?

Heres the link to the old problem - does it disappear when you switch shadows off ? Mungo

I spent a couple of hours last night trying everything I could think of, but all to no avail. The dithered effect is even visible under Vicki's toes. It seems to be limited just to the region where contact is made with the ground plane.
