I am curious to know if it will be worthwhile to do Poser utilities for the Mac OS X. This - and related - information might be useful for several people here at R., so it might be interesting for R. to make a survey for OS (Win9x/Win2k/WinXP, Linux and Mac OS X) that the members use.

Hello fmorgan, The member profile page has a required entry for Primary OS, although it doesn't get as specific as WinXP/2000/ME, etc... --Asher

It's probably worthwhile to recode all the Windows utilities into OS X versions, even if Renderosity's server logs and membership info don't accurately represent the number of Poser 5 X users (or potential users). My estimate is 3-4% as the potential proportion of Poser 5 X users, meaning at least 30,000 unit sales of Poser 5 X. The problem is convincing the programmers (Steve Cox, Martin C., Jim X, et al.) that it's in their best interests. We've told them that we'd buy their utilities, but OS X is not a programmer-friendly coding environment in many cases. To be blunt, it's still riddled with serious flaws, so I understand their reluctance. I had hoped that, after more than 2 years of patchwork and cosmetic surgery, they'd have OS X where it's supposed to be, but I still see daily reports of nasty problems experienced by both newbies and old pros.

Well, I need to disagree with this "not a programmer-friendly coding environment in many cases". I am a programmer (C/C++, java, etc) for a long time now and I had never found a dev environment so productive and easy to use as Mac OS X's (note: I never used the older Mac OS9). It comes from the old NeXTStep (now it's called Cocoa) and it's much easier to use than VisualBasic and with the versatility of languages like SmallTalk (and it's a superset of C/C++, so you can use it also). My question is because I have been thinking of producing some Mac utilities and I would like to know if there is a market for Mac OS X utilities.

Yes, there is a market. Ask this question in the Mac forum (listed under topic forums) and you may get a positive response. We want utilities for OS X similar to several Windows utilities, e.g. UVMapper Pro, whatever they use to decode PCF files, Tailor or Quick Conform, whatever they use to mirror morphs, etc.
