Anyone ever try to sync camera movements from Bryce or Terragen with Carrara? I am working on an short animated film, and I have some outdoor scenes. I am not really happy with the sky or terrain features of Carrara as they stand right now, and would love to composite animation created in Bryce or Terragen with character animation created in Carrara. Anyone ever try this?

You may want to try making a sky in bryce or terragen and doing a 360 render from bryce or terragen and using that in carrara. It might be easier than doing a camera match.

Yes, I have tried that, It works great for skies, rendering a huge 360 panorama in Bryce (4000 x 1500) and placing it in the Background in Carrara, but for skies with terrains it doesn't seem to look quite right when interacting with objects. Thanks for the reply though!

Have you tried doing a sky dome? It gives a different effect than just placing things as a background. Here's a good tutorial on how to do one... http://www.maxoncomputer.com/tutorial_detail.asp?tutorialID=54 After you've created the image, make a large shpere and map that image to it. It should work okay for you. Also check out www.rustboy.com if you would like to see some amazing examples.

Yes, done the skydome too. :-) Skydomes and the Background in Carrara work fine for panning the camera, but if you want to zoom in or zoom out, the sky and landscape do not move, they do not increase/decrease in size. IE: If I map a 360 panorama to a skydome or the Background and do a "flyby" of an object, the object appears to move toward me instead of me appearing to flyby the object. Again, skies work great in skydomes and Background, it's more of a terrain issue I am working through. And yes, I have spent a considerable amount of time at rustboy.com over the past couple of years... Brian is an amazing artist. His work is one of the reasons I upgraded from RayDream to Carrara 1. :-)

" Brian is an amazing artist. His work is one of the reasons I upgraded from RayDream to Carrara 1" No question about the amazing part. Thing is, the only part of Rustboy made in Carrara is Rustboy's head. Everything else was made in Infini-D.
