Subject: What a difference the skin shade makes!

I was just playing with the Heavy Horse after finaly getting it to load properly (see Crescent's post about fixing seams below) and was blown away at what a difference the different shaders make to a final render! I noticed that cr2s are importing with the materials all set to "plastic lighting mode" so I created 2 distant lights and did a test render (show here). I then tried it with the skin set to "skin lighting mode" and then the "matte lighting mode". The skin lighting mode took much longer to render but is well worth the wait :) After that I think the Matte looks the best. Also being able to select multiple materials to sedit at the same time is a huge time saver, I can't even do that in Cinema 4d! I'll attach the other renders next....

Skin lighting mode. All three renders used the same 2 lights. Then I tried to duplicate the same lighting in Poser 4 and the P4 render looked richer than the first 2 Daz ones but not a patch on the skin lighting mode render. Alla

Damm I wish there was an edit button.... I also found that for some strange reason the tail was displaced on rendering, although it looked fine in preview mode, very strange. Alla

Alla, Here's a tip rob whisenant posted at DAZ. To select multiple materials more easily, drag the left hand side of the Surface palette out till it looks like the image above and click on the Enable button. You can then SHIFT-select multiple materials from the list on the left. You can also use CTRL to deselect single materials from the multiple list you've selected. It takes up a lot of space, but it quite useful. mac

Wow, I never knew about that either...who knows what useful functions are simply hidden slightly out of sight. :) Thanks very much, I was REALLY getting tired of applying textures to V3 and M3 one Material at a time. ;o SnowS

Cool.. it looks like the skin shader is actually a blinn. The biggest difference will be around the edges (look along his back and haunches), where a scattering of light is simulated.
