I'm upgrading my computer system as it currently is useless for Vue or modelling or anything. I was wondering if these specifications will be good enough to run Vue 4 Pro WELL, not just averagely: 2.8 Pentium 4 processor ATI Radeon 9800 120gb Hard Drive 1gb Ram Thankyou for any opinions and advice, I apreciate it.

That should do fine, hardware-wise. You may have to juggle drivers a bit to get the best combination to play nice with your OS (2K of XP, I hope....), but you have the metal for the job..

That sounds good, thankyou for replying. It will be XP Pro and the system will have minimal things on it except for VUE, truespace and a few other development applications.

If you are importing Poser scenes I suggest 2GB of Memory. I have 1GB and it is not enough for larger poser scenes. See: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1560040 E-on recomends at least 2GB for larger Poser scenes when using Vue4 Pro (it needs a LOT more memory than Vue4)

These are just poser models, not backgrounds, scenes, props etc. Will I still need that much?

If you bring in 5 or 6 mikes or vickies, with clothes, it becomes unusable. I hav P4 2.6 and 1gb RAM. Have a look at my gallery for Vue scenes with lots of people in. Where Vue4 Pro will not handle them Vue4 does.

Got to go with Richard on this one the more Ram the better. Regards

Yep, Vue is a Ram Guzzler! I also agree with Richard. OpenGl is a (powerful) graphic & modelling software library, which intentionally provides only low-level rendering routines. So, that you can have more control on your graphics hardware. It has absolutely nothing to do with memory. Vue has a drawback, it does not know how to use the CPU cycles properly. So, only way to speed it up and have a well performance from it is to give it as much memory as possible. Do not neglect Motherboard's FSB; I would recommend 800 or up. Hope it helps.

I have 2GB ram and I still get the 'Out of Memory' message. Another thing to watch out for is that even though motherboards can take two or more gigs of ram, you can have problems with compatability if you don't fit perfectly matched sims. I have just had to replace my ram because it wasn't all bought at the same time and my system kept rebooting or quitting me out of programs (not just Vue). I agree with the above comments and even though E-On will not admit it, I still maintain that there is a memory leak in there - somewhere. It's a good idea to reboot before rendering a hi-res image from a large scene, just to free up as much memory as possible. Remember, the more memory you install, the more Windows takes for its own use (I have 2GB but windows takes 400MB). nish is correct also, be very careful about which motherboard you select. I think that Vue has some way to go with the Pose import side and importing multiple Poser figures seems to really eat system resourses, I now tend to do several selective renders and composite them in Photoshop afterwards. Regards.
