Everyone, I have been asked to resign as a moderator at Renderosity for reasons I may not discuss. It has been very educational being the moderator here for the last few years, and I hope my replacements treat everyone well. If anyone needs to contact me or ask any poser related questions I can be found as a moderator of the Poser forum at Rendervisions.com, through my gallery at Graphics.com or my website As Always Lyrra the Ex-Evil Overlord

Really tho - a damned shame overall. I always felt Lyrra had quite the level head and even hand when dealing with this rabidly enthusiastic roiling forum. A very difficult thing to do what with the constantly shifting, open-to-interpretation TOS and mass amounts of strong personalities in the Poser community. ;) I don't know what goes on or went on behind the scenes, but I think RO has lost a valuable asset.

I think the PTB are being very asinine in their replacing their good mods with people that can't hack it. From what I've seen lately, the new guys are being too nice and are getting pushed around. And on some of them, if they don't like what they are hearing (no matter how bad) they just lock things up (Ie, the magazine thread). Oh well, things are going to hell in a handbasket, and they don't seem to care (until they realize it hurts their profits). BTW, for the admins that are clueless and have been arguing with me on the state of things, why is one of the most popular terms being used by different circles for R'osity "Rectumosity"?

Hi Thomas
Congrats on your elevation/appointment to the "Co-Ordinator team".
I genuinely wish you the best of luck with it.

It is sad that in one of your first acts as a "Team Member" you should have to interpose in the controversy surrounding the removal of one of your colleagues and issue a warning about attacks on the PTB. Even sadder that this should come in the early hours of 2004.
However, I see no real substance to "NO more Renderosity Site, Admin, or PTB bashing."
"Fair Comment, "democratically held ideas" and "differing opinions" have always been respected, held in high esteem and encouraged on this "Artists Site" and have long been accepted by the PTB as part of the normal flow of argument and diversity of Renderosity. Perhaps these long-revered standards about normal forum discussion have recently changed?
Personally I don't see any "Bashing" going on yet, some ribald and colorful comment perhaps, but nothing against the TOS. But maybe others see this differently?

Best regards
STORM

I don't work for nor answer to anyone here, and anyone's "authority" on any site only goes as far as their website and no further. So while I'm here I respect the rules, but I'll say and do as I please other places, within their rules, if any. How I'm treated here affects my behavior outside the 'PTB authority' to pro and con. Behooves them to be nice to me, actually. Got enough real 'PTB' in real life, I'm not going to fret over any in cyberspace that have no real control over what I do anyway.

Also, I personally feel that reasons for her being fired are on topic, since this is about her not being a mod anymore, and thats why I said what I did. That is all, Spike, I find your post rather ironic. Not that you didn't like her or anything like that, just a r'osity high power responsible for this saying she was good and will be missed. That is all.

Kate, I visit Rendervisions all the time, and I use Netscape. Mind you, it's an up-to-date version of Netscape, but the site does work fine. I went to the site with Netscape 4.x (I think it's 4.7; I only keep it on my hard drive for testing purposes) and I see what you mean about the blank page. I didn't go through the code with a fine tooth comb, but there's a bug in NS4.x that prevents a page from displaying if there's an unclosed table tag somewhere. Perhaps that's the problem... I'll drop a note to Lady Cherry and she can look it over and see. Still, and I really do NOT want to be rude here, but when you use a browser from 1998 or so, you do kind of have to figure that a lot of stuff just won't work in it. That's no excuse for bad coding, but stuff like CSS, some forms of JavaScript, iFrames, etc. just plain won't work, because they hadn't been developed yet. That's just the way of technology. bonni

I worked for somebody who fired someone because when he yelled "Shut up!" at her in front of a customer, she said he couldn't talk to her like that. (She had earned her own personal, public "Shut up" by objecting to his telling the customer another employee was "a {futting} genius who doesn't know {ship}."--my censoring, BTW) He explained to her that he was the owner of the store and could do whatever he liked. And fired her. (Then a few hours later he permitted her to apologize and hired her back, because he is a saint, after all.) He was right, of course. We all can do whatever we like. R'osity can replace good mods with people of consequence who announce their presence with tasteful signatures like "Still a mod, and ready to kick butt." They can tell us--merely guests, after all--what to say, what to see, and what to buy, and ban us for undisclosed offenses. And the consequence of doing whatever you like, is that others will do whatever they like. What I like, is to drift over to Rendervisions. My visits to R'osity are shorter and shorter, and less and less frequent. And I never, ever, buy in the RMP any more. Oh, the customer never came back. M PS: This post became "on topic" when Thomas stepped in.

lol mick, sounds like one of my mothers former employers, who fired her in a rage one day when she refused to do as he wanted. (because what he wanted was illegal) After he fired her, he tried to lie to the unemployment office declaring she quit... so she turned him in for tax evasion to the IRS, and made a cool 1000+ dollars on the deal after the IRS took him to court and won. (you get ten percent of whatever the IRS collects, if you turn someone in for tax evasion.) Moral? there's always a bigger fish than you are, out there somewhere.

Well, smitthms, let me take the opportunity to give my viewpoint on a few things. (1) Humans, being what they are, get emotional. If graphed, it is a spike that surges high and slowly returns to a flat line. (my way of saying the emotion of Lyrra being dismissed will die away...even she knows that) (2) To have allowed the thread to get posted and not locked in the beginning was "implied" consent to allow people to post more than a "sorry to see you go, good luck" message. Anyone with a brain could have foreseen a bit of straying from the sacred "subject line". IMO (not humble, mind you), all you have done is portrayed yourself as a person who is a bit more "trigger-happy" than a coordinator should be and alienated a lot of people in R'City's biggest forum. How are those "oats" feeling now? (3) R'City seems to be undergoing a lot of changes. Without much business sense (I must confess), I wonder if the recent moves indicate a desire on behalf of R'City to become more of a business and less of a community. More interested in profits than people. Of course, this is fine. People come and people go and there are always new people to join who won't know of these sorts of things. Kinda reminds me of the "mom and pop" store that became a chain and no longer knew the names of the customers...they were "faceless beings with money to spend". Personally, I like the "thanks for buying my product", "small-town", "I appreciate your business" approach that some sites and vendors project. (4) I know this is a tough forum to mod. I'd never do it. I don't have the patience, I think. Or the time. Or the knowledge. I also think losing Lyrra was losing a person with those abilities. Yes, she is spirited and opinionated. But, as I posted above, from what I saw in her (and the person I met at Dragon*Con), she dished out her "warnings" to people with a lot less of a "lead shoe" than you appear to be doing. But you remind me of a person ready to graduate from the police acadamy who can't wait to don their badge and "Rodney King" the first person daring to tiptoe over the "line". My advice would be to give these free-thinking, opinionated artists who sell and buy here a bit of leeway in their "rants". So long as they don't call people names or otherwise tresspass on the TOS. My "rant" falls into that category. I've only expressed an opinion. I've tried to be informative about it as I gave my opinion. Admittedly, I've tried to insert a bit of sarcasm. Like others, I suspect, I will mellow out. But, I can tell you now that I won't forget the demeanor you have displayed nor will I forget the way Lyrra handled controversial threads. I, of course, can be convinced to leave this community (errrr, business) by receiving a warning for this post. After all, most of the products I want to buy can now be obtained at a lesser price at other places, assistance is readily available at other places, and, if R'City's "trend" continues, I expect I can ultimately obtain ALL I need from another site. After all, I find, by my spreadsheet on spending, my purchases have been increasing on PoserPros and RDNA (good work, Mehndi and Syyd!). And, suredly, no one will miss my gallery (LOL).

Phantast posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 10:10 AM

Whenever one sees the phrase "reasons I may not discuss" the tendency is usually to assume something rather worse than the hidden reality. Which is a good reason for not using that phrase or requiring others to do so. Anyway, all the best.

FyreSpiryt posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 10:41 AM

Figures. Lyrra, you're going to be missed. I've always thought you handled this forum very well. "R'City seems to be undergoing a lot of changes. Without much business sense (I must confess), I wonder if the recent moves indicate a desire on behalf of R'City to become more of a business and less of a community." Gee, I hope they're smarter than that. I certainly wouldn't come here just for the store. I don't like the policies, and I can get most of what I want cheaper from venues I trust more.

this would make a very good artical in any newpaper, where the truth can be told, where there is Freedom of the press, and let The People Know. How some sites set there own rules called TOS, and then turn it around they way they see fit, and then hire someone to help them and then they kick out one of the best. How they want to censor everything, like nothing is going wrong, yet we all know how screwed up Ros and other sites are with this thing called TOS. all you have to do is read all the posts, even most of the readers know that "something is wrong". a freindly site? it use to be, fair? it was at one time, but to be used and sometimes abused well that isn't really fair.

I can wish her well without bias, and without tearing anyone else down in the process. I'll visit Rendervisions and Lyrra's site, because she is a very talented person and I'd like to see the direction she takes, and I hope that whatever she puts her energy into is successful for her. Very good analysis, Chuck. Allowing people to vent, even "bash," a little, would be a lot less disruptive over the long run than preemptive threats that only rile people up more. These things generally blow themselves out. IMO, Rosity can take it. Admins should stay out unless we're attacking each other. Bashing the site is harmless, like complaining about the government or the weather.

Snow, I like it here. Don't get me wrong. There are lots of things I like here. However, I will miss Lyrra. At the same time, I know how hard it is to be a mod in this forum. I hope smitthms smoothes out a bit and I hope mods allow a bit of leeway in posts. I know it's a business and I know bills need to be paid. People just need to remember us buyers (and commenters in forums) are the basis. Artists need to be vocal sometimes and unless we start calling others we disagree with "assholes" and "dickheads", give us some leeway like Lyrra did.

Which is a word, last I checked, I can say. You seem to be flying off the handle in a totally unappropriate way in a thread that isn't even about this.
