kayarnad posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 7:22 PM
yeah they should... but I was looking for something a bit more professional looking (like with bump maps and all)... that's why I didn't want to make them myself... but cool pic, dr. geep, probably will give it a try if no one produces a better one than the one I could make...

re: " ... a bit more professional looking ... "
You can make the bump map directly from the texmap with only a couple of mouse clicks ... it's built right into Poser.

you CAN map your custom props, primitives and individual parts the way you like with uvmapper free you make the layout of the texture map for it, and then you can put any bumpmap , texture , reflection and so on.. (if i am not wrong, ney geep ?)

Yup! ............. You are not wrong. ;=]

thanks geep! you convinced me of giving it a try... one question though... so far, when I've wanted to bump map something, I simply turn it into gray scale, then darken it with brightness and contrast, and then invert the colors... how did you accomplish those bumps in the sign? thanks for your valuable help... and I do have UVmapper, riddokun... I guess you can tell now why i wasn't so sure about making that eye prop myself, I still lack very much of the know-how by the way, how would you make those metal rings that hold the sign to the post? any tutorials about it
numanoid posted Fri, 02 January 2004 at 2:22 AM
You could model the rings that hold the sign, but it might be easier to just use a texture and a bump map for the rings as well. Whenever I can use textures and bump maps I prefer it because it renders faster.

woah, that's cool, dr. geep... but, how big should I make the sign?? I mean, you didn't even measure the box to see how big the jpg file should be?? plus, I didn't know Poser could create the bump maps on its own!! darnation, and here I was spending hours making countless bump maps in photoshop... thanks, I'll save the jpg and see how I go, I'll post back..

that was not what I was asking... I always check "use bumps" all the time... I was just wondering if the process is any different to the one I do... basically, how you were able to recover the bump map you posted here from Poser... to what folder does poser generate the bump map?
geep posted Sat, 03 January 2004 at 6:43 AM
Oops, sorry. ;=[ I didn't mean to be pedantic. What version of Poser are you using? The answer to your last question "... to what folder..." Poser puts the xyz.bum file in the same folder as the xyz.jpg that was used to generate it. If you want to look at the xyz.bum file in a graphics program, you may need to change the file extension. Ok? cheers, dr geep ;=]

yes, that's what i wanted to know.. I have Poser 4 PP, so as you know, it doesn't use the .bum file extension anymore, but it's been bumping stuff anyway, specially on clothing, just not on the blessed street sign.. I'll keep on trying, though. thanks as always!

Thanks for the great ideas on creating a street sign! But, how would I save the cylinder, the sign, and the rings all together in the library so I can place the assembled street sign into any other Poser scene? And of course be able to edit each of its components.
thanks,
Ron K.
