hi there, i followed the discussion on fitting V3 cloth to SP3 using The Tailor and Morph Manager - there seems to be no idea around? well, i have som i'd like to discuss/share. The Tailor (TT) is made to transfer morphs from a base figure to clothing that is already fitting this base. that means, you can't use it to fit V3 clothing to S3P directly. instead, we need to create a morph for V3 that changed Victoria's geometry into Stephanie's, and transfer this morph to the V3 clothing (via TT). That should not be such a big problem, since V3 and S3P share the same "topology" (both are unimesh). so as far as i understand morphs, this is the procedure (in theory..) 1. export Steph3's body parts in poser as morph targets. possibly you might need some "tweaked" groups, depending on whether V3 and S3P use EXACTLY the same groups in their meshes). 2. create morphs for each pody part in V3 based on the morph targets created in step 1. 3. transfer these morphs to V3's cloths in TT. 4. use MM to create a full body morph for the piece of cloth. i think the use of Morph Manager is not mandatory, but yet it might ease the use of the S3P fitting morph a bit. unfortunately i could not verify this procedure yet - i just have no V3 available .... some questions immediately coming up: - if it is so easy to transform V3 into S3P, why did DAZ place a new figure/character? --> well, here we only take care for the geometry. joint parameters are not taken into account, that means, the clothing freshly adapted to S3P might need some conforming... - what if my morph targets from step 1 do not fit to V3 body parts? --> obviously then the grouping was not OK. as i told, this is just THEORY. but maybe it helps you creating new free clothing for petite Stephanie, who starts complainig about an empty wardrobe. and you know how ladies can be concerning this... many regards, sebastian by the way: yes, this is my first post on r'osity. hello again, and a happy new year!

Your theory is sound, Sebastian (welcome to Renderosity). This procedure has been used in the past to convert clothes between figures which have the same mesh, although Morph Manager is not usually involved; The Tailor can make full body morphs. Where the figures don't have the same mesh, sometimes a talented member of the community such as Lord Nakagawa will make a "mannequin" which performs the same task. However these have to be approved by DAZ. Joint parameters are usually taken care of by a conforming pose which injects them into the new CR2. Again, this requires someone with skill and time to do it. I can't verify any of this for the opposite reason: I don't have Stephanie 3. However I have tried it with other figures.

happy to see it work! beryl, have wonderful dreams. bob, actually seeing Lord Nakagawa's "mannequins" clarified the process for me.

Connected with FrySprite on this same issue. It seems that the JP Pose thingy is needed for it to all work and no one has made one as of yet. Making one is beyond me. Also checkout the DAZ Member Forum (if member)this is also mentioned.

agree. i already said in the first message, this procedure will only fit geometry. as long as you try to conform the original cloth (after enhancing it fit the "fitting morph"), the JPs are resized with the geometry. this will only work as a basic setting and needs some fine tuning. unfortunately poser uses absolute JP values. no way to change to relative values without creating an (incompatible) new program. and, beside that, relative JP values would not solve all problems in conforming. back to new clothes for S3P: it would be useless to export the morphed cloth and use it as new geometry object to base a new cloth figure on. (because of the absolute JP values issue). using the JPs given with some already existing fully conforming cloth for the new target character (here S3P) might better help to find a proper setting. well, some more detailed tutorials on conforming would be nice - any expert out there willing to share knowledge? i am willing to learn! (the tutorials i found so far end when it gets interesting... ) can someone comment PhilC's tutorial CD? ist it worth its price? oh, and then there is still something more i wanted to mention: the method should work for ALL unimesh characters - including M3. (looking for a leather jacket/jeans jacket for S3P) :-)

just checked JPs again. found that joint parameters actually ARE relative. sorry in case i irritated someone. the only part of joints being absolute are origin and end, and there is hardly a reasonable way to put these relatively.

Would it be possible to use the JP setting pose that came with Lord Nakagawa's mannequin, and kind of reverse engineer it? Just an idea - I don't know how one could do something like that, and I don't even have Stephanie (yet) to try it out...

mannequin has no joints.

Fyrespiryt's tutorial on how to make joint parameter poses is at DAZ Arcana here.
You can download poses for Mike 3 from this tutorial page, for Vicki 3 from Lululee's tutorial, and there are more at Fyrespiryt's and Netherworks' sites.
If that doesn't give you enough to be going on with, let me know. I won't do anything about it, but let me know all the same. :-)

knew DAZ arcana tutorials already - maybe i was just too stupid to understand 'em? gimme next weekend to work them out again. anyway thanks for the links. i didn't realize those utility poses until now!

I also have a JP pose for the Freak available on request. Just send me an IM with your e-mail addie if you want it. Oh, on the tutorial on how to make JP poses, DAZ has never corrected the support file. To get my little helper ap, you can go to my webpage and download it from http://www.shininghalf.com/desprit/downloads/ . It's in the "Wha-huh?" section near the bottom.

yep, found that. actually, it's not so far yet, still need to find the correct settings i'going to put in there. origin and end are clear, but to understand the different types of static and dynamic parameters, and what they are good for - that is currently my problem. but i must admit that since christmas/new year vacations are over, i just lack a big amount of time to investigate. say, i'm so tired when returning from work...
sebastel posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 10:30 AM
oh, and i forgot, S3P is the only 3rd generation DAZ figure i own. (i just could not resist her) and i still use poser 4 only - see, i'm on a budget. the big money eater currently is my motorcycle... :-)

In "zero pose" everything is perfect. However, I encounter these problems when I bend the joints (rshoulder 45, lshin 45, lthigh -45). I have verified that the JP's in SP3 and the Catsuit are identical. Can anyone tell us what is going on here?
FyreSpiryt posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 5:32 PM
Chest and leg look like the JCMs. The bump on the arm, does it go away if you move the shoulder another degree or so?
sebastel posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 6:00 PM
that looks pretty close to what i actually see when trying to conform a piece of cloth directly derived from S3's object. JP's were directly taken from S3 character (*.CR2) unfortunately, neither poser nor morph manager seem to work correctly on editing the JPs. i found at least what actually happens, don't know yet what might be the reason: somehow JP values get lost (origin, center of deformation zone, etc.) removing the cloth figure even crashes my windows! (Win98) i find myself far away from a position where i'd like to be, even not being able to actually see what i am supposed to work on. dissatisfying is a weak word for this. any help would be welcome. (yeah i expected some mess but not that amount)
nakamuram posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 7:53 PM
FyreSpiryt, There are no JCMs in my Morphed Cat Suit. The Bump on the arm does not go away as I increase bend. In fact it gets a lot worse. I suspect that the problem may be in the Catsuit's Fall Off Zones (same as SP3). I'm not sure what to do, though.
FyreSpiryt posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 9:30 PM
I meant Steph's JCMs. Because the catsuit doesn't have any, her won are poking through, would be my guess. Not sure with the bump, though. Did you use the S3 cr2 out of the box, or do something like Bloodsong's base conformer tutorial? It may have some offsets set out of the box that are screwing with you.
nakamuram posted Fri, 09 January 2004 at 9:38 PM
I used Steph's CR2 and followed your DAZ Arcana Tutorial. The catsuit has its own Fall Off Zones. Maybe I need to remove the Fall Off Zones from the "conformer" pz2.
