pretty bold statement for someone still relatively new to Poser, but i had to get your attention somehow, and it's the attention of the Renderosity community that means the most here....i settled on Geocities for my site for the simple reason that i don't like big, bulky ad banners or pop-up windows....the drawback is the measly 14 MB storage limit.....the possible solution is this: setting up an iDrive, XDrive, or whatever for each section (props, textures, etc.) and directing visitors there to download the items they want while maintaining the Geocities site as the preview site. Pros: much more storage space, items can be downloaded from one area, just like at a regular site, a separate window or second browser can be opened to access iDrive and keep track of what you want and where it is, and i'll think of more later. Cons: the separate window thing is kind of a pain, downloading from one site is always a seemingly better thing, strikes one as inconvenient at first, and i know i'll think of more later. as far as site hosting goes, here's a brief list of who i know of and why i'd rather not use thier service: Xoom: constant server problems Tripod and Angelfire: pop-ups FNS: no files over 200KB, BIG banners Webjump: BIG banners Crosswinds: oh, for pete's sake!!!!! Homestead: as if...... Virtual Avenue: because i'm a jerk, i guess..... sorry for the long post, but i need a little assistance in this manner, and since it'll hopefully be the members of this community doing the most downloading, i figured this was the place to ask.....

I'm at www.ewebcity.com, 30MB space, ASP support, put up pretty much what you like, no banners at all. The best bit - it's free. Take a look at my site to see what you get (www6.ewebcity.com/pdblake), don't ask what the 6 is for. Tried Crosswinds (I agree with you), they deleted my site for having unsuitable material on it (never said just what the material was), they must have something against Visual basic source code (and yes, it was all my own code).

I've been steering people over to where BlkBuddah hosts my stuff, (http://www.bizland.com) & haven't gotten any negative feedback yet. The allow 35mb freespace, pretty quick FTP uploads, & best of all they allow outside linking of files. The only drawback I've found is that they don't allow the use of download resume software (Go!Zilla, GetRight, etc)

hmm...thanks for the responses so far....i'll look into some of this stuff...and btw, Go!Zilla and GetRight have Spyware built into them, so you might want to look into that a little deeper.....

man, you guys in the States seem to have really weird providers. I'm in Italy, and all I did was phone up, log in, get all the e-mail boxes I want and 100 megs of webspace. I go on the net, never see a banner, my site works for zips etc, and apart from the phone bill (about 60c an hour), it doesn't cost a penny. What's the deal? Am I missing something? maclean

my ISP provides a small site along with the internet service, hardly enough to build a Poser resource site, additional e-mail boxes for a fee, and your own domain name and such for a much larger price........apparently European countries haven't learned to incorporate greed along with their internet services.....let's hope they never change......the banners i'm talking about are ones displayed on the free web hosting servers......that's why they're free, because the ads pay for the site.....and also, i think i'd rather pay the $19.95 a month for unlmitied access than an hourly rate on the phone bill........i'd go broke in a hurry ;)

Hey, TWW, are you aware that Geo does not permit direct linking of .zips, and will eventually boot you for "Terms Of Service" violations if you link stuff from there to FreeStuff here -- as they have previously done to several members here, including me. A few days after getting TOS'd I emailed them for details and they gave me the site back for revisions. I revised my site so that all zips were available to anyone entering the site from the top page. I've now had one item left in FreeStuff for about four months and, as yet, Geo has not complained again. However, it may just be that they have not gotten around to checking my site again. Also, though Renderosity uses a download app to sidestep the Geo block, many users here still seem unable to use it properly.
