Hi everyone I ask here, because 1) the mere volume of people who read here, and 2) because there might be someone who knows what I'm looking for, having read mythology to nourish his/her art... Soooo... I am currently looking for the name of the person in one of the mythologies mentioned in the title above (sorry, I don't know wich one...), sculptor by trade, who worked so perfectly and made so beautiful sculptures he fell in love with them. I hope I put in enough information for you to give me the right answer, if you think you know, put something in, please. I have one of those darn memory blanks, and it lasts some days now...very frustrating ! Thanks in advance for all who answer or try... PH

Pygmalion. Not all that OT, really, for the Poser forum... ;-)

Aw, ask us something hard, like who was the downstairs maid on Olympus?

Who plays acoustic guitar on the Rolling Stones' "It's Only Rock and Roll"? Heh.

and the statue was Galetea?..;) there's a famous painting of the sculptor with a half-marble, half-human woman, reaching around to kiss him..I think it's one of the Pre-Raphaelites, but I could be mistaken..;)

Who plays acoustic guitar on the Rolling Stones' "It's Only Rock and Roll"? Can I buy the answer to that trivia question with the answer to another? Here's mine: Who plays acoustic guitar on The Rolling Stones' "Play With Fire?" The answer is Phil Spector. OK, SamTherapy, who is it? Quick, before this thread gets moved. :-)

Weird, but that's a good one. Michael 3 could be morphed to make a pretty believable David Bowie, Stephanie 3 would make a good Angie Bowie, and the DAZ Gremlin could work as Mick Jagger.

It's only Rock and Roll Recorded in December 1973 & April/May 1974. Released as a US & UK single in July of '74. Also released on the album It's Only Rock 'n Roll in October of 1974. Lead Vocal: Mick Jagger Guitars: Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Ron Wood & Mick Taylor Bass: Willie Weeks Drums: Kenny Jones Piano: Ian Stewart Backing Vocals: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood & David Bowie Your question was who played the acoustic guitars, and that was Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Bowie only did backing vocals on that song.

According to two Bowie biographies, he also played acoustic guitar. Either one of us could be right or wrong on this; maybe we should call Mick or Jonesy to ask. :)

Mmmm, I was referring to the actual song, which is what I thought the question was, but the album was also called "It's only Rock and Roll", and Bowie did play guitar on some of the other songs. So you are right if you are referring to the album. I spoke to Davey last week and I don't want to bother him again so soon. And I don't have Mick's home number anymore. When do they decide that we are way off topic, lol.

Back to topic: Pygmalion and Galatea. The painting is by Gerome and is in the Louvre. I have a print of it (one of my favorite stories).

Thank you much to all who answered...even those who humourously provided off off topic questions and answers (was'n't it John Lennon or Eric Clapton ?) But pu-lease...this was not a trivia question and was not aimed at ridiculing anybody but myself (obviously), since I have those nasty memory blocks about thing I know I know...I was left speechless when I had this argument trying to demonstrate the symbolism of an actual situation, and refering to this Pygmalion/Galatea thing (without ever recalling), I could not easily demonstrate my point. Not easy to be 40 sometimes... PH

Edward Burnes Jones, one of the British Pre-Raphaelites, did a series of paintings on the Pygmalion and Galatea myth that are lovely and subtle. Here are links:

Unfortunately the-anthenaeum.org doesn't allow direct linking to images anymore. Here's a link to Burnes-Jones bio and works at The Art Renewal Center though, another excellent site. Pre-Raphaelite is my favorite art movement. What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

I do seem to remember one of Mick's girlfriends finding him in bed with Bowie..who, btw, was forced to become Bowie becaues Davie Jones (the Monkee), had got the stage name 1st..;) Bowies' original last name was Jones..;)

Have you looked at AprilYSH's Siren hair, at Poser Pros I think? It could do with an extra layer in the tails, but it's very Art Deco to my eyes
