When you use the "add cylinder" function, the above image is the only way to do it. I prefer, when mapping is involved, to create the cylinder in the spline modeling room. That way you can better control the surfaces that are being mapped onto with the parametric mapping funcion. (side 0, side 1, side 2, etc) Good luck! Mark

Thanks for the response. I think this might solve the problem, How do I adjust the size of the oval layer to cover the entire top surface with numeric values. The points around the oval layer are a pain to control and be precise with?

I figured out how to apply a decal on the topside of a spline made cylinder with the anodized aluminum shader as a master shader ,thanks to your tips.But I ran into one problem after all my fussing with getting iy on there right. It was reflective just like the metal sheader, so I made a new layer of aluminum and applied it to the bottom, the main shader to the sides and a texture map on top. Bingo.
