...is that they never look realistic. They look absolutely horrible. I've been reading the Bryce manual and trying to learn everything about terrains, I've been playing with them, trying different filters, resolutions, materials... but I never get any realistic looking mountains. Another problem is the terrain size. My "distant, huge mountains" never seem distant, they look like you could touch them if you reach out your hand and as for the size... they don't look bigger than an average Japanese car. I'm getting really frustrated and desperate with this :( HELP!

ok make the mountains really really really big and put them way far back.. sometimes setting the haze at about 3 or adding a little fog helps.. but usually if you make the thing monstroulsy huge and move it way way far back it will come out ok.. as for the shape .. can't help ya much there.. i just keep hitting fractal till i find something descent or just use what bryce gives me automatically..

I have a rivers tutorial (it also covers terrains) at http://www.pussreboots.pair.com/tutorial/ and links to other tutorials at http://www.bryce4all.com/tutorials.htm Sarah

Fractal, erosion, a little more fractal, erosion, lower, smooth, slope noise, a smidge more erosion. Erode to taste. =-) Sarah

High terrain-resolution (512 or 1024) for more details and less edgy terrains and plenty of RAM (to handle those large BR-files, esp. with multiple terrains). :-) Hubert

Sorry for my ignorance here, but how do you use the DEMs?
