Oh...humble beginings, lol... This is I guess what you would call a "blocking out" of a scene I am making for a client, whom gets that title since he is paying for this, lol. It's a non-commercial project, which potrays a large "spaceport" which has been built within a large crater on a planet. This is a landing pad for a spaceship, and except for some buldings and pipes is about the only thing that will have to be "modeled", the rest will be landscape-ish. This pad though will be duplicated many times over to form the spaceport. This area of the planet is used mainly for mining and will reflect that slightly "rusted dirtyness". The basic shape of this pad and railing was extremely important to the client and he and I built this up over a few hours time getting the angles and the scale of everything exactly as he wanted, as (I told him) everything else would be built/scaled according to this pad. The whole thing will have small lights/spotlights here and there, that's the reason for the one phantom light you see going down the side. The final scene will have many resulting renders made of it. The project is for a proposed Star Wars role-playing game. AgentSmith

This client's last name wouldn't happen to be Medici would it?(j/k) This is a very interesting looking start and I look forward to watching your design concepts evolve.

Cool! A good start and I shall enjoy seeing the final image.

An excellent looking pad! I am on who sets down in any available meteor crater because I hate paying the high pad use fees everybody charges these days.

Forgot to ask... Does anyone know of any specific tuts or tips on creating a crater-like shape as a terrain? Just curious. AgentSmith

try dragging the gaussian edges button in the opposite direction

AgentSmith posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 5:24 AM

Oh, no that's cool Rochr, since this is a paying gig, I couldn't take anything, but thanks for da offer man. ;o) Max, I knew someone would say something like "try clicking the "crater" button a couple times...", lol. I've just tried fiddiling with the gaussian edges, that'll help a lot, thanks. AgentSmith

Don't know if this is any good, it's made with a PS/PSP filter by VM Natural called "Splash". Used in the terrain editor!

johnyf posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 7:42 AM

Here's another by VM called "Crystal Ball"

I know what you mean, but i think these are just extra presets from Corel. (i can be mistaken though) :)

Heres a dump. Its the crater on the top row.

Peter Sharpe has a tut on making craters.... click the link for the tut on his page. 8)

I came up with some shapes I was looking for, using both the peter sharpe tutorial and the gaussian edge button in various ways. AS

In the past, for making lakes, I just made a mountain I liked then inverted it. :)
