I hope this is the correct forum to post this, if not, I'm sorry :- Has anyone had any luck running Poser on a Linux box? I used linux a few years ago and liked it, I just couldn't get any of my doze software to work on it. I suspect linux has improved in that aspect over the years and that WINE has as well. I use Photoshop7, Paint Shop Pro 7 & Cinema 4D 7 (7 must be my lucky number) as well as Poser 4 Pro Pack. It would be great if I could get all of these programs (and others as well) to run properly on Linux. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has had luck with this and also what distributions of Linux you use and what emulators (even though "Wine is not an emulator" hahaha). Thanks :-)

I'd hit up Penguinisto, hon -- I might be wrong, but he's an old red cap at Linux and just might have a few specific ideas.

Hey Ynsaen :-) waves Yes, I heard that he was the one to ask about these sort of things, so I posted about it on... well, somewhere else :o) I just don't want to seem like a bother or a leech, just want his or anyone's advice about this who knows about it. Thanks hon!

Well, Penguisto replied to my message on another site and said I basically needed win98 & Lin4Win 4.0 or higher. I'm going to do some digging into this and when I do build the linux box, I'll see if I can get it to run on RH or SuSe... I have RH 7, probably need a newer distro and I know they're getting out of the personal-home user market. So, Might have to go with SuSe. (A very good friend of mine uses SuSe and he likes it even better than RH, gasp. I trust his judgement). I'd like to see if I can get it to work on a full linux distro instead of Lin4Win. I tried Lin4Win a few years ago and didn't like it. And I really don't like win98, bleh. When I find the time, I'll build the box & start experimenting ;-) I'll let you guys know if I come up with anything that works (if you're interested?).

I don't remember what it's called but somebody told me there was something loosly based on WINE that is much better for Windows programs. They were able to get a couple of Adobe programs working correctly that way. I just wish I could remember where I read it.

Found it. Looking at their compatability testing it looks kind of mixed. For example Photoshop works but PaintShop Pro doesn't. They don't mention Poser.Mercytoo posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 1:21 AM
