Buildings, lamp-post, hydrant, hmm whats missing? A road, gutter and footpath! Perhaps some flat cubes for the footpaths. A texture for the road. Maybe a boolean for the gutter Any ideas people on how to make a better street?

maybe have elements like a parked car, or add a trash can on the side. It all depends what kind of street you want ;)

Bus stops, man hole covers, litter, telephone booth, roadsigns. Lol, I just went outside to see what was there.

People. I do a lot of commercial work, "artist's impression" stuff for buildings, structures, etc. It's amazing how a sterile render can come alive with the addition of a few figures even small ones or alpha planes used for figures. Ditto plants, "formal" and weeds, although these need to be used sparingly otherwise their irregular shape can draw the eye away from the composition as a whole. Other street elements = flags, shop names, glass store fronts, shop displays, signs, house numbers, railings, air vents, grills, drains, overhead cables. If you really want to go nuts with detail then include rain staining (especially from wires), chipped bricks, uneven pavements (sidwalks), broken glass inc. windows, smudgy dirt at ground level and roof levels and litter. Of course, all this depends on the type of street you;re creating. :-)

Mark

The type of street I am trying to create is to be just the road, gutter and footpath, a kind of combined object I could just plop into a scene, and then add the extra bits needed later. Its mostly the footpath that I have trouble making look right (damn concrete).

Hmmm Tasty! Do you think a bump map might work for the gaps between the pavement's concrete slabs or a texture?

Yeah, after I'd uploaded it I realised I'd left out the gutter. Doh! There are several ways to do the pavement / sidewalk. Not sure which one will work best. I'm working Monday / Tuesday but I'll try to get something done by the end of next week or next weekend.
Cheers,
