Stop leaving! Please everyone! It's sad! And the really sad thing is, the reason it seems eveyone seems to give is because of the hot 20, and ratings and things. Ack! If you think the hot 20 is corrupt, why should you care about it? I dunno. Just seeing all these people go, made me sad, but I'm okay now.

erosiaart posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 12:59 AM

this is silly..why leave over the hot 20?? Arn't we here to learn..does it matter who wins or lose? I thought we were a community struggling over bryce..not issues that shdn't even matter! I've been so caught up with things ..that i have little time for myself, let alone bryce..but there is a folder that is full of ebots I have to go thru. And I do so want to enter this month's challenge..though I know I can never get anywhere close to a lot of pple's work. And nopes..I'd never want to leave here unless I am so caught up, that ebots freak me out!! ;) Or AS decides enuff of me around here! :) To the pple who leave.. over stupid issues like hot 20, etc..is it worth leaving, knowing that the pple who judge hot 20 are not so much us but kiddos who really don't know, that the few years or months that you stayed here (i've only been here for a few months)..you've learnt so much, shared so much, even yr own personal life and probs, and even fought with each other? And hey..all families fight..if they didn't..they sure wldn't be a comfy family to be with..you'd be on yr best behaviour all the time and wldn't even be able to let down yr hair or kick up yr feet on the sofa! I hate partings..I've had a lot in my life.. I've left countries, cities, even hemispheres.. never got used to all of this.. still leaves an empty space...

I noticed that this evening and I know the angst of not getting credit when its deserved but from whom is the question. I think that what 'I' think about my work is more important then what anyone else would. I come here because I enjoy art, no more no less. steps off podium I hate that all these very talented ppl are leaving. :(

I would like to express my words. The most senior members should well know about the Hot20 and how it works. To get up and go ,with referral to this is kind of silly to me.Also being a talented artist, one might think they would stick around to show the beginners what they might expect with practice. We all know this Hot20 is a "vote for friends deal" and has no bearing on how good someone is.I for one never look at it.I do say excellent on people's images no matter what.Sometimes for lack of other words, but more to show that I have checked out the image.Sort of a drop in say hi thing. When they are really good I do vote. Words of expression come out of me when an image is spectacular. Remember back when you started how much a thrill it was to get a pic in there.Let it be for the beginners.Contests are one way to really show talent as they are not so inclined to have just acquaintances vote.Rather a way for people to add their name and show how they ranked it.Heck I believe I should have won the last contest. Don't we all?........................................... But will I pack it in because I didn't? No!....................................................... I keep struggling on.Maybe one day.One thing I do know is I will stick it out to show my images and hope newbies can learn from it as I have from here, and all you other fine artists.OK no more rambling ... Just don't take this so serious.Have fun.See another day.

Besides, JC_01 and Striving aren't truly gone, they both have logged onto here as recently as yesterday, and have been posting to threads on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th... Which, neither one of them should leave, ever! Brycers GOT to stick together. ;o) AgentSmith

Well, don't worry Ian, I'm not going anywhere, I'm too damn stubborn. You guys are stuck with me, so get used to it! As far as the "Hot 20", I've never had a pic there, but it doesn't bother me 'cause I'm here to learn, have fun, and hob-nob with(and possibly annoy)my fellow Brycians. However, that having been said, if I ever offend one of you guys, or you have a bone to pick with me, please don't hesitate to IM me. I promise not to bite.

I never look at the Hot 20, for the same reason that I don't watch MTV - the pics are chosen by popularity, so subtlety or skill isn't going to be highly regarded - or even noticed. The Hot 20 is kinda nothing, anyway. Seems to me that there's a core of super-duper artists here, who blow everyone else out of the water. Everyone who visits the forum regularly knows exactly who they are, and they know who they are. So why not view it as.......the cognoscenti know the REAL Hot 20, the other is for people who need affirmation?

I'll worry more about the hot 20 if I ever get good enough to get in there. Personally I think of the hot 20 as a little bit of cream to go with a damn fine cake. THe cake is the people and art represented here. The cream is when the group of artists are willing to say that I think your image is worth voting for. For me it's the artists like Rochr, Alvin, MrDodoBird, Hobbit, HypeBorea, amethyss, ocdoug, beton (from other galleries think of ToxicAngel and TwistedKid) etc etc who I look at and think 1) that's worthy of a vote and 2) I'll try something like that. Plus take a look at Ornlu's stuff, or Bam Bams, rarely in the hot 20 but a good source of inspiration and technique. If a piccy is in the hot twenty that I don't think is worthy I ignore it end of story. I'm sorry that anyone, especially a talented artist would leave over abuse of the hot 20 :-(

Hot 20 - kinda neat if I ever get in there, otherwise I ignore it as far as myself is concerned. But, really I gotta say, the majority of pics that are usually in there are from the artists that we can ALL agree on liking. No, not ALL the time, and not ALL of us, but...it could be way worse. Hmmmm...Class...Classs...Cllllaaasssssss... One thing you can always be certain about they say they leave but they always come back...My two cents worth... 1.Get rid of the hot 20,and in its place will be a different poll that where AS sets up where say a Pic has to get 5 or more Rankings then it is put on a Seperate page that the BRYCE Community can vote on then the Top 10 get shown for a 2 weeks to a Month on this special Page then they get replaced by the next months 10...I know more work for you AS but cant you delegate someone from the Community to oversee? 2.We should hold our own Monthly contests and we should be choosing Bryce Products from the store for the Prizes and we should have a link on the frontpage for the contests this way everybody coming to Renderosity would see us BRYCERS are involved with making Bryce Better for everybody...Nuff said...

I think Legume is still around. My take on the whole Pink Pony thing: I would say Legume's work is in the original spirit of the Dada Movement. People in the Poser section of Rendo got sick of the Purists and other Art Snobs. They started voting heavily for Legume's work, filled the Poser Hot20 with it, and even voted him Artist of the Month. The snobs went ballistic, but that was sorta the point. How do I feel about Legume's art? Entertaining. Eye of the beholder, man, eye of the beholder. :^) BTW, the above is strickly my personal take. I may be way off on some of the details. John

I honestly cant believe why anyone would leave this great place because of one feature. After all, isnt Rendo about displaying work, learn and interact with great people? I think were doing just that. Hot20 is just one part of it, and hardly the most important one. Ill definitely be around pestering the rest of you for a long time... :)

Hi everybody... just to say that I didn't leave Renderosity, and I'm not leaving Bryce Family, even if I'll be using other packages to spew off my ideas. I was absent, and I will be for another lenght of time, but the reasons are different: one, I have to learn some challenging softwares for a project; two, I'm moving into another house so I can't connect right now and I usually "steal" connection time from a friend. But, hey, I'm so glad to see that the Hot20 issue is HotterTwentier than ever, LOL... I have to agree with our Tentacled Talent here above because Thou Speaks Truth, Rudy. The change in others lives may prompt certain decisions, yet the choices can always be, chocolate this week, vanilla the next, and then back to chocolate. So who knows!

I know a lot of people who think Blue Dog is crap, but I gotta admit, I loved it. Went crazy for it ... would buy some originals if I were richer than Bill Gates. And, I'll never (a) make it into the Hot20 or (b) leave (although I may take short breaks now and then). I don't look at the Hot20 unless someone tells me there is something in there to look at. I don't think the top 20 is a trivial thing. Many artists upload images daily and work gets buried fast. Work that is in the top 20 gets more comments and more views, feedback is what we all like, it's part of the fun of showcasing your art. It's also a showcase of the Bryce community to other communities (Vue, Poser etc.)Seeing the great work in the top 20 makes me proud to be part of a fantastic Bryce community. I agree with Bryster, we just need all to vote for the really good works, and make the top 20 the flagship of the community and a source of inspiration for all. Just my two cents.

Yeah, voting is the only way of making the Hot 20 have a truer feel about what we all think. Remember last time with the whole dark horned equidae chap? For a while we all seemed to be voting a lot more and the quality of the Hot20 shot up. It's the only way and I'm as guilty as the next Brycer by not voting when I see a great picture. So with this said it is with great regret that I have to inform you, my friends, that I'm not leaving, nope, no way, no how, never. You ain't getting rid of me that easy.

So if hot 20 is too hot, just stay outta there. The galleries and the forums are still available. Besides, I don't think anyone joined R'osity because of the Hot 20. Personally I joined for the gallery, I found out about the Hot 20 much later. Yup, definitely not a reason for leaving. Yeah, I the Pink Pony is rebellious art against those purists and snobs. I do care about improving, and sharing tips and tricks. (grrrr i know i hit post, but it didn't post...will do my best to write that novel again)(and now the third time, guess i take too long to write or the post is too long...) Yes, as AS stated, and as i said in my thoughts thread, I am still around, mostly in lurk mode, posting only when i feel compelled to, or need to. And stumbling on this thread and reading it, this is one of those times. I said in my post that the reasons for leaving, well, didn't matter anymore...but i suppose, seeing another thread that says the world revolves around the HOT 20, I feel i need to clarify what "doesn't matter". I did NOT leave for issues with the HOT 20, nor did Striving.... 95% of the deciding factor of my departure/break had nothing to do with the Bryce forum, galleries, or the hot 20. As a growing atrist and a struggling merchant, I've extended into the community forum to keep up on site stuff, the merchant forum, to keep up on store stuff, and the product showcase to list the stuff in my store and a sale. I even posted a "i need help" kinda thing in the wings forum. I log on each day to check on sales, banners, page views, as well as for any IM's that someone may send. My major malfunction, however, goes much deeper than the hot 20, or gallery issues... There were many many reasons... At the top of the list, FRUSTRATION!!! At the end of the day, when all is said and done and we log off renderosity, if we are more tired, more frustrated, more upset then when we came here, it is time to go..take a break, leave, whatever. Not one of us logs on in the morning and says "gee i feel too happy today, lemme go online so i can get frustrated again" All of us, whether we admit it or not, are a bunch of emotional, moody SOB's...and that is GREAT! THAT is where the talent, creativity and inspiration comes from to create magnificent and moving pieces of art. But in the quest to express that moody emotional side, somtimes people forget that just like each of us, others too have those same traits...and sometimes, people just don't know when enough is enough....and people get hurt. I know it's easy to just skip the bad threads, but i am curious by nature, i have to know everything (lol hubby says that's why i test so high on all those online tests and stuff) and to see people bashing the hard working staff, the members here, and the site again and again....well, sometimes i just wonder.... I also have many MAJOR projects i am working on like rescripting a whole 4000 line iptscrae .pat file for a palace chat as well as building the whole 350 room palace City in bryce for a unified 3d view, including 2d maps, and a corresponding navigational web site that will eventually be flash incorperated right into the palace... Add on top of that 2 young needy kids, a hubby, a house, medical problems and an upcoming surgery, and suddenly, i have no desire to subject myself daily to the continuing frustrations that sometimes abound in forums here. I think of you guys as my family, here in this forum, and i thank each one of you who cared enough to send a little note to me, in the thread, or in an IM to let me know that i will be missed, and was appreciated. THAT is what makes this place a family... As i said above, 95% of why i left, or am taking a break, however you like to look at it, has nothing to do with bryce, or the family here, so please, don't take it personally...these are my reasons, and mine alone... I will be around, as i said, checking IM's, reading a few posts here and there, and checking on my stuff... Jen

danamo posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 5:05 PM

I always copy and paste my ramblings from notepad 'cause sometimes I've tried to post three times, or more and the darn thing will kick me out to the forums page! Just kidding I tried that once and could not find the door. Now I remember back in the day when Rosity split up to become 3D Commune those were fight'n days and every one was in a huff. Heck I almost left and deleted a lot of my images many of which I since lost... These days everyone is in a huff about image counts and top 20 well I am begining to think if you want out for that then if I could find the door I would show you out! What silly utter nonsense! Many of my favorite images in my gallery never made the top 20! Hell some rarely got viewed either! Reminds me of people who say the want to die so that someone will stop them. If this is a pity party then I will find that door! If you have a problem then vent, if you need more people to view your gallery do something to deserve it! Look at oh I dont know HOBBIT that guy never has under like a 1000 views and why BECAUSE HE IS A DAMN GOOD ARTIST! Maybe its not the gallery that needs to change (although we all no with a flood of images viewers are more picky I know I am) maybe it is your work. When all I see is look at these render balls I did or look at this basic Bryce Mountain etc I expect to see a low viewer ship! When I see boobs and naked posette it drives me crazy too see all the views. If you need to leave then go, but again I will say it. A lot of under recognized artist have contributed to the community in different ways and have had a major influence on my work. Sometimes the most simple image has had a profound effect on me

Vile: "Maybe its not the gallery that needs to change (although we all no with a flood of images viewers are more picky I know I am) maybe it is your work." Well, yes, that's why I said I get depressed when I visit Hot20. :-) But man, did I get a rush when somebody put me as their favourite artist. I went to see and the other name there was Hobbit. Wow. Meant more to me than five first places in Hot 20, because he's one of the people whose work I appreciate immensely. BTW, burgi, the lite version - basic post-it notes - is free. Bottom of the page.

I think the top 20 has flaws and is good as well but to base your worth on it is silly. I tried that once and all my hair fell out. But then it grew back.

hot diggerty! i didn't see that at the bottom! maybe we shouldn't have different galleries, just one big 'un where anything goes. "and slamdunking into the top 20 within the last 24hours is... a bryce image alongside a 3d max one, mate." if you have never heard of tony blackburn, that last comment is wasted on you. btw: the post-it note thing ROCKS supremely! Aye, AgentSmith, others, I apologize for being an arse in my (deleted) comments. Honestly, I was only frustrated that someone would attack me for giving them honest, even loving criticism. I suppose that using text to return the attack is no more honorable than the original attack. So, I apologize to anyone who was offended at my idiocy and I'll try to watch my mouth (fingers? keyboard?) in the future. There's no reason some text on a screen should offend anyone, ever, and I was being childish by letting something like that anger me. (bows to y'all)

Peggy Walters said, "Each time I post a picture to the gallery I am so happy that people thought enough to click on the thumbnail and look at the picture. Then some nice people even left comments! Even if I never make it to the top twenty, I'm still in artist Heaven." Well said Peggy. I agree with every word. I for one am a hobbyist 3D artist.... I never have had, probably never will have an image in the Hot 20 and I don't care. If one of mine does end up there I will probably never know. I do not profess to be an up and coming Picasso or Van Gough; but I do enjoy making art. This is why I am here at 'Rosity. More than that, I have really come to like this particular forum and the people (real people) that are here in the Bryce forum. Fortunately it isn't like the Poser forum has become where you have to be careful about what you post. I have no intentions of leaving this great community. I hope that everyone that is still here will stay. Like Erosiaart said... this is like a family here. I have been a member to Renderosity since January of 2001. I was gone for awhile and came back when I could. I can not say that I regret joining this great bunch of people here in the Bryce Forum. That is mostly cause I don't let little trivial things like the "Hot 20" and "What is an artist" junk tarnish my view of why I joined in the first place. That being I have a great love for great art..... even if I am not that good at it. Wade

Well,..........in the words of Groucho Marx "Hello I must be going. I'm glad I came, but all the same, I really must be going". I dunno,.........leaving is a bit extreme,.......I can't go anywhere,.......no, really, I have a nasty hip fracture and my 10 month old 13Lb. "Kitten" has knocked over my crutches,........so I'm stuck here in front of my machines. Hope my wife gets home soon. Hope she doesn't work late tonight,......I'm getting hungry. Glad this thread started, because now I've bookmarked the Hot 20 - I don't have time to browse the galleries, so mostly don't see images unless they're linked from threads. First time I've seen anything by Wilby, for instance. Sheesh!

I have no intention of ever leaving. I may not be in here as often as I would like due to extremely busy work these days. Most of my work here of late has been C4D but I have NOT stopped playing with Bryce. My latest exotic works over at 'rotica are almost all Bryce LOL. I find that having both allows me more freedom. Bryce is just too cool and for its price just too valuable to walk away from. Too much fun too but that is understood here. This forum is also one of my favorite places. Richard

The reason I stay here at the R and the other site is because I have many great friends I've made over the last couple of years, I also want to display my art... so whether it makes it to the top20 or not makes no difference also I feel that some great images gets minimal comments... really doesn't matter to me at all... there are great artists and personalities here which is enough to keep me here for good... I'm not going to let the minimal negativity that goes on here get to me, I think friendships built here are to good for that!! J

?????!!!!!! An impolite comment because I wrote that I found excessive to see a commonplace image in Hot20 with 20 or 25 comments "excellent" while those of true good artists have it only 4 or 5???? In what was my message impolite??? Please, well read again it because I believe that you did not very well seize the sense of my papers. What I regret (and this is not for me because I always had very good comments), it is that, for several months, I noticed that was enough resources of good friends to be propelled to the rank of the best artists. Do you find it normal??? Next to that, you have very good images, realized by artists who put only very rarely comments, who meet themselves only with 4 or 5 comments, sometimes even criticisms on behalf of those that put "excellent" on inferior images. Then yes, I find that it is a pity, and that, in these conditions, art is not recognized any more as such, but in the fault of the relations which one can have. Please, if you want help somebody, make tutorials, give advices, but it is not by persuading him (her) that what it makes is excellent that you will help him (her). Indeed, why to make efforts because one says to me that I am excellent??? I believe that all, you did not absolutely understand what I wanted to express. On the other hand, I am anxious to indicate that this excellent person, so sweet, when one puts her comments which are not positive, sends back us very aggressive messages! While my initial message was not absolutely aggressive, I gave only my opinion. Now, if the possibility of commenting on images is made only to say " Wooow, it is beautiful, it is great, artistic, made magnificently ", say it and that only these comments are authorized, it was necessary to clarify it before. Where is freedom of expression in that case? Is it always necessary to put positifs comments and ever to say what does not go to the system???? My comment was no agressive and not tactless, and, in fact, did not even address this person. It addressed especially to the persons who put wrongly positive comments, this to point out to them that next to it, they abandoned those that deserved it really. I have myself a 2 and 3D community, with a forum, In which I make maximum to help the beginners.I spent there days and nights (and I continue to make iy) to bring all that a person who begins needs. I think very sincerely that it is like that that one helps somebody who needs advices, by acting. And certainly not by calling him (her) that what he makes is magnificent. And, please, take a look to the others images, even though these persons do not post you comments. And I repeat that this is not for me, because, each time, I had very good comments. How do you want that one takes a gallery seriously if all the good comments go only to the images of the beginners, while abandoning beautiful creations??? Please...Be just, honest and help really those that need it with true helps, and not with words which put to sleep. Sincerely. (excuse me for my bad English, I am French, and write in English is difficult for me. But I hope that you will understand that I wrote) SylvieB92.
