you're using a crappy rendering program? :D it has to be under 15kb drac
AgentSmith posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 2:20 PM
Excuse draculaz...we forgot to slip him his meds today... Yeah, make sure it is no bigger than 200x200, under 15kb, not even like 15.1Kb, but 14.9 or less. And, if Vue is anything like Bryce don't use the program itself to save a pic as a jpg, use a another program, there are many freeware programs out there. I use and suggest Irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com AgentSmith

I use photoshop to save the images as jpegs, the main image is fine, its just that the thumb isn't Thanks Phil

You need to make sure that the jpeg compression level is set so that your thumbnail sized image will compress down to something 15kb or under.

That all ok, I dont know whats up, when I preview the images in Photoshop they seem perfect but when i upload them, they seem to screw up lol.... PhIl

Check in your directory to see what size your thumbnail is. Not is it 200x150 or whatever, but the actual file size. If it is one teeny bit over 15kb, it will not transfer. I've found I've had to compress several of my thumbnails more than my paint program normally does on its own.

I have that problem with PS. It tells me my thumbs are below the 15kb level, but when I upload r'osity tells me they are more. Wonder if the PS forum has any ideas? I have been using gifs as thumbs to get over the problem, but of course the quality is way down.

I have noticed that the 2D programs are sometimes off, by just a bit, and that I have to double check in the directory to see what the true size of the file is. PSP has got a very nice compression export function that allows you to keep the file as a jpg while compressing it further. Or, you could just play with the PS compression while you are creating your thumbnails.

I always use Photoshop's "save for web" option for thumbnails, you can resize and save very compressed in one easy step.

Hmmm, good idea drawbridgep!
Innovator posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 7:59 PM

*Photoshop; Make sure you didn't save the image with a thumbnail and/or icon attached. These attachments are non-standard image formats, only understood by Photoshop. Even if you did upload them, no one's browser could view them, so these have been disabled. I've had/used Photoshop for years, but have never used it to save my pics as jpg's, too problematic for me. But yes, you CAN use the "save for web" option, or use Image Ready which comes with Photoshop. AS
