So, I went to look at mloates' chessboard, and that took me to Agent Smith's (very short) metal tutorial with image. I liked the texture, so I pulled that into a filter that I have (and use a LOT), and turned a photo that I thought was good into something that I personally think is bloody marvelous. The creative process is so very Alice down the Rabbit Hole, you know??

It's the Redfield 3D texturizer. It comes with jpgs mostly of objects (pretzels, strawberries and such) that you can use to texturize your images. However, I have found that I much prefer to use it with plain - less object oriented - textures. And AS's metal looked really good to me, so I stuck it in. You've got four slots to put in the same or different textures, and I often used the same one in all four slots, just scaled differently .. or made darker or lighter. This came out looking like a downpour on velvet. I just went whooooooooaaaaaaaa!

Did you take the Red pill or the Blue pill?

rickymaveety posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 6:59 PM

Which ever it was, I plan to take another one. This texture lends a whole new level of meaning to some of my simplest pictures.

Very cool effect. The first one looks good, the second one looks fantastic--a really cool aged photo look.

Ooh, ooh, I gotta have it! Where can I get it, how much does it cost, and will it work with PS 5.5 (yes, I still live in the dark ages).

And thank you AS for making that texture available!! It's got to me the most interesting rain/photo aging effect I've ever had in my arsenal.

Love the metal effect. Amusingly, a lot of photographers will use that same texture, creating it with a real sheet of scratched silver metal. keep taking those pills..you come up with gorgeous work...

Thanks .... a lot, actually. I can always use the strokes.
