Hi everybody, here's a scene I've been working on occasionally during the last 2-3 weeks. I will name it "Big in Japan". Bryce & Wings for used for the buildings and photoshop for the textures and billboards. I downloaded a Japanese font and I have no idea what the signs mean - I hope I haven't written anything offensive :) I'll probably add something in the foreground and continue adding details in post. And I'm not quite happy with the sunrays. Before I finish it I would like to have your comments and suggestions for improvements. thanks!

Mmm....... aside from the fact that the Coca-cola sign is in Arabic, amazing work!!!

LOL, yes, yes it is....I'd go for a darker wetter, grungier Blader Runner kinda look, but you have a terrific start on an awesome image, just that one little thing...:)

Hey, it's the future. There's a large Arab population in Japan in the future. If you don't believe me, ask Rochr. :^)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Mmmm.... just make the stream of light blend in a bit more and change the arabic, and it'll look great!

Melansian_Mentat posted Wed, 11 February 2004 at 8:45 AM

Lol... cross-posting there. Thing is, they definitely don't have any Japanese signs in any arabic-speaking country that I've ever been to... and I've been to quite a few. Just my $0.02...

There was a big fire in Akihabara yesterday, some form of urban renewal?????

Well anyway, i am gonna check it out later this year, so we will see about those arabic signs :)

I repeat, this is the future (check the buildings in the background). Ten years ago in the USA you wouldn't see many signs in Spanish. Now you'd have a hard time finding one that doesn't include Spanish. Changing populations of the future are somewhat predictable, in that new communities will form within nations in the future, just as they have in the past. (Chinatowns in New York and San Francisco, Little Italy in New York, etc., are good examples of what I mean.)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Oh, from the thread title, honestly, I was expecting a scene with Godzilla. I like it. It reminds me a lot of Blade Runner.

Could be worse, could be raining.

I like this one a lot, Bazze! Might I suggest inserting a picture/sign of Chiaki Kuriyama? She's the schoolgirl-assassin form Kill Bill, the new Quentin Tarantino movie... Made me think of her instantly! I like the curvatures of the signs and whatnot, very cool!

Morita posted Wed, 11 February 2004 at 9:47 PM

Hi, Bazze. I live in japan since I was born, but I can't understand your japanese signs. LoL I feel it's almost "Big in Chaina" or "Big in Hongkong"! I think you should chage left big 2KANJI(blue marked) to mean "TOKYO". So it means futuer TOKYO on TV news.:-)

Himico posted Wed, 11 February 2004 at 9:58 PM

You are right, Morita. It seems to me that they are Chinese or ------ ?

well.. I finished it. You can follow the link to the final version in the Bryce gallery. Didn't do that many changes. Softened the rays, slanted the scene a bit, changed a couple of details etc. I didn't change the signs however - I hope those of you who know the languages don't think this is disrespectful. Hey it's the future!
