I needed some spikes and it occurred to me I could just grow hair. So, I set hair to 4 hairs and set out the limits and when I rendered ... 175 hairs -- way too many. It appears that Poser 5 has a hidden minimum number of hairs it will grow? Does anyone know a work around? The hair function is the perfect way to add spikes to things. Now, if hair could be made broad and flat, I could add blades to things as well as spikes. Thanks!

Yes, apparently there's an undocumented minimum-number-of-hairs. And no, no workaround. As a spikey alternative, have you considered using displacement instead? True, you'll have to paint a map telling Poser where to extrude each spike or blade, but if you have any familiarity with transmaps or bump maps, it isn't that difficult.

I've been involved with poser as an artist for about a month. I'm afraid maps and displacement are a little bit beyond me right now. The number is 174 or 175, now I'm wondering if that is per segment or for the whole figure. Ah well. Thanks!
