After finishing up the Arab Festival shots, I was now faced with burning the final product to CD. It turned out to be about 4.2GB worth of images (I keep a copy of the original converted image, a copy of the final full size image, the web resized image with and without border and a layered copy of the bordered image for every shot). That came out to 6 or 7 CDs. Couldn't stand it anymore. That was the final straw and I went out to join the rest of the 21st century and picked up a DVD burner. Oh I am so happy. 1 DVD held the entire festival and only took 13 minutes to create. Amazing that for $109 I got a drive that burns DVDs in +/-RW & +/-R formats plus CDs in R and RW. -=>Donald

Yeah, DVD burners are a must these days, especially with the larger format digital cameras.

Could be worse, could be raining.

Yes they are a great boon in this day and age... I have made myself and external firewire HD 120 gig for about the same price that is my own favourite storage medium at the moment..

sniff, sniff I want a dvd burner.... It really drives me crazy when I can't even fit a single roll of film originals on one CD.....

I am, therefore I create.......

Backups? *pbbbbbttt* I don't even dream of backing anything up anymore except my documents. My desktop system has 132GB and I probably have a combined 16GB free. My network file server has 210GB and has about 40GB still free. 'chelle - they're certainly coming down in price. Tigerdirect.com has one for $79 now. Man, that's just insane. (see above link)

I need one too! In the post "my little corner" perhaps you saw the stack of CD's on the desk. That is jsut what I have shot since Jan 1st! I am running out of space to store them all! But then again if I go to this century then I may have to upgrade my antique computer that still runs Win98 FIRST Edtion. I am so far behind...

@Donald: i'm talking of documents / images ... and some bryce/poser files .. even if i don't have that sizes you talk about, no chance to backup Win itself. @Zhounder .. wow .. Win98 .. great memories arise :-)

Ahhhh...ok, then we are on the same page. Yea, my images and poser stuff is all I can really back up. I've thought about getting a 160GB Tape drive for real backup. Dunno. Ah well. -=>Donald

Thought about that too but they are soooo expensive. Remember the days where a 2GB DAT-Streamer was enough .. sigh. These days, one DVD-backup per month and RAID-mirroring have to do the job. Don't feel all to good with that ... Tom
