ok I have been playing with fractals ever since I saw one of TTs work and just sat stareing.. needless to say I went and got apo. now I got apo beta 2 but BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT I can not seem to get the solidaty I am looking for. I went and played with the density but it doesnt seem to give me what I am wishing...most likely because I dont know what to set it to to give me that nice clean solid look like this pic.. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=611811&Start=181&Sectionid=30&filter_genre_id=0&WhatsNew=Yes&Form.sess_id=5916955&Form.sess_key=1077871837 that is amazing ...such wondeful solidaty. how HOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW can I get that? I set the density high and it seemed to blur the fractal I set it low and it all looks like I am playing with neon light. hellllllllllppppppppppppppppp I want so badly to make a really eye popping fractal one day

You'll get a cleaner solid look using more linear variations...I tend to start all my images with 2 linear transforms and 1 spherical transrom and then work from there.

Crim, ummm I'm relatively a newbie at fractals and I don't understand your answer. I'm using Apop beta 2. How does one use "more linear variations"? I also would like to see more solid looking fractals. :)

O.O I even did step by step a tutorial that was listed at the apo site got all excited thinking YES finally one of those solid 3d looking fractals. and.......................... no still spastic pixi light ribbons.. which dont get me wrong I like but are not what are normally considered "Great" fractals

Also I should say I have the desity at 250 filter radius at 0.3 gamma down low hoping to clean up that dusty look and still .. well actually I thought the density would make it look more..dence but it doesnt seem to. Some of us dont really know to much about the technical side of fractals just that they are wonderouse and beautiful and we would really like to make on lol

Ok...I posted a very basic tutorial a week or so ago for Apophysis v1 which can be used for version 2 also, check the link above. You can also change the transforms (triangles) that are created in a random flame to suit your needs more. In the editor in Apophysis (the thing where you move the triangles around) you will see some tabs on the right. Click on the variations tab and it gives the settings for the present highlighted triangle. You will see a list of the different variations used in that triangle. All the values have to add up to 1. So if you type 1 in the box next to Linear then that triangle will only use the Linear variation. You can have any combination of variations you like on each triangle...Just remember they have to add up to a total of 1. In my experience dropping the filter density won't necessarily mean less background noise on a flame, it can sometimes make it worse. You are making the dots sharper so they show up more. Try raiseing the filter radius slightly to 0.5 or 0.7. This will mean less detail in the flame itself but it should also help blur the noise into the background more. Failing this, there isn't a lot more you can do, sometimes you just get bad flames that won't behave as you want them to. Matt.DarkElegance posted Sat, 28 February 2004 at 5:19 PM
ok that explained why I couldnt get higher then one in the variations tab in the edit menu! I have also been working only with 2 or three triangles and it starts to look good then WAM messy dust everywhere and it just looks flat. Ill drop down the density and I guess keep tweeking the triangles and read your tut. THank you!:)!

Just do small movements when adjusting the triangles...I normally undo and try again if it goes dusty. I also always set the gamma to the lowest setting before working on a flame to minimize the dust.

Crim, thanks for your help. :) Up 'til now I've just been using what I HAPPEN to get that suits my needs. It will be nice to get a little control over my fractal universe.
