A website all about holograms, how they work, and all about lasers. Lasers are the coolest thing, ever. Well, not really, but they rule anyway. I thought this might be interesting, perhaps at some point our .br5 (and .br4 and .br3!) files might be converted into something along these lines...

oooh, my images in a hologram :D that'd be cool :) I wonder what kinda renders they need for that though..

I wonder if a computer could generate enough data to produce a interferograph through ray projection? Sort of like ray tracing, but actually burning a hologram onto a plate instead of using the data to produce a screen image. Now wouldn't that be cool? If only I knew somebody researching optics, with a specialty in holography...

A really interesting thought there shadowdragonlord. I know that you would have to play honest in your scene planning so it would be viewable in 3D. You would have to plan it out almost like a VRML movie. I would have to change my whole style- no more floating mountains or hills,lol! And now I would have to render with a ground plane(unless it was a space scene). I love the concept though.

Aye, Danamo, that's always been a problem of mine. Perfectionism. I almost always make my scenes viewable from any angle, or animatable, but this slows down developement time and often makes my scenes way too big, data-wise...

Hi. At my holography company we do this all the time. I've posted here about some of the large scale holograms we've done (with depth/projections in exccess of 20 feet!!) using Bryce, Vue and Poser. (There are links in my previous posts to images and animations. )These large scale images cost anywhere (typically) from $7k - $25k depending on size, number of colors, etc.

We're currently beginning a campaign to bring smaller size one-offs (as wells as mass duplication if desired) in full color at low cost, to the masses. We could convert any 3d scene (Poser, Bryce, Vue, 3DS, etc.) to a fully-3d, full color 9x12 hologram for under $200. Do you think this would interst many people here in the 3D communtity? I imagine it would, but I'm not sure about price points. However, $200 is incredbily cheap for a fully-custom hologrm ... of ANY size.

Well $200 for a 9x12 print is kinda expensive, but for a full color custom holocram it is REALLY cool :D Are those high quality holograms?

Yes, they would be high-quality ... truely three-dimensional holograms. Not the foil-type with flat imagery or Motion-Pix imagery, but real holograms.

Just as a means of comparison. To create a fully-custom security image ... like a little 2d-multiplanar embossed hologram like you see on your credit card, is anywhere from $2500 to $10,000 just for the setup/origination.

Other technologiues, like polymer are normally in the $2500 to $5000 (and are better holograms) for setup, but the per piece cost is much higher than embossed.

Another example ... MotionPix, which we also do, which aren't even holograms -- they're just 4-color prints with a special lens -- normally cost $750 for the setup alone, and you can't get one-off's. 2500 pieces is the minimum.
