What to do with such a subject? Usually i try to get it centered in cases like that. Sometimes, applying the rule of thirds is the better way. This time i wanted to have it somewhere in between the both of them ... and it seems strange to me.

So what do you think of this? Is it ok for you, would you crop a little at the right side to get it centered or at the left to have it with the rule of thirds? Or is it to bad to think about cropping at all?

Any constructive ideas are very welcome :-)

my first instinct was to say equalise the red space either side of the dark colour but i think that would make it look flat and uninteresting. so, i would say leave it as it is because to me the of centre composition adds more depth to it. hopr this is helpful.

When the subject is symmetric the best thing to do is to center it. With asymmetric subjects you can decenter it.

I would agree with you on this one Raven... It doesn't seem quite right... For something like this I would center it, so it feels properly balanced.... or go to the far extreme and crop it very tightly and have the stamen far to the side.....with lots of negative space on the other.

Thanks a lot to all of you!! :) I'm very tempted to do it the extreme way Michelle suggests - let's see what happens.

It has a very graphic feel. Love the color. because of its symmetrical nature, I'd say center it too ... but I'd only center it horizontally (left/right). I think that will look very nice and stop it form being a bit stagnant. -=>Donald

This is simply sublime, what a great image, but perhaps it could be even nicer completely centered, for the symmetry reasons mentioned before, but I'm not completely convinced that this balance isn't what I would prefer myself, as I like it... I would be interested to see the extreme version suggested too!
