This is a piece I'm working on for a friend of mine. She has an online store selling fan-art tee shirts, mousepads, mugs and such. This is Uranus and Neptune from Sailor Moon, based on Young Nene and Linlin and a whole lot of morph targets. (I even made one MT myself (my first!) ::pats self on back:: to get strand "C" out of Neptune's face without distorting the rest of the hair) There will be clothing added...Wynter's Utena dress on Neptune, and a *lot* of post work to make it look more anime. I won't be making much money, if any...we may barter instead...but she might make some through using the image on merchandise. My question is this: What is the protocol for something like this? I won't be selling or distributing any files...just the image. Also, I seem to have misplaced the readme and contact information that came with Young Nene and Linlin. Could someone please post it, or mail it to me? Oh yeah, what do you think?

heyas; you can't distribute the obj's or meshes etc, as you know. you can charge for work you do with the meshes and figures, to create art. nene and linlin were... from ikyoto? i think. is that the poserfactory site? sorry, can't recall exactly. if you have the text files that came with the figures, they may specifically deny commercial usage across the board, or unless you contact the authors for special dispensation. (for which they may or may not charge you.) as for the pic, it's very nice. you might try turning down the lighting to get deeper shadows; but i'm not sure that is a look you would want. the far arm of the left figure (sorry, dunno which sailor is which), at the shoulder... nasty jaggy things sticking out there. i suppose you'll fix that with the post work, though. :) congrats on your first morph target :)

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2000 at 6:41 PM

Those jaggy things are a mystery to me. They only show up in rendering...I've loked at it from all angles, and they just aren't there till I render. They will get post worked though...so I guess it doesn't really matter unless they show up in something else. Hmmm...I'll check it out with deeper shadows and see how it looks. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I think I accidentally deleted the documentation in a fit of housekeeping. I just want to make sure I'm not stepping on anybody's toes.

Nene is from the PoserFactory site, http://www.interq.or.jp/red/pandt21/EDLMTChara.htm I'm not sure where linlin is from since I didn't find her there. And those jagged things on the arm look like the knuckles of the blonde's hand (sorry, I'm not up on my sailors either g) Kate

Nene and Linlin are both Poser Factory--Kozaburo/Yamato

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2000 at 8:46 PM

Thanks picnic..I'll see if I can find the contact info there. The jaggies behind the blue's waist...that is the blond's knuckles...that'll get covered in hair so it's ok...but the real mystery is the jaggies in the background just beyond the curve of the blond's left breast. I checked all angles of the pose, and there's nothing there that should cause that...it only shows up in render too...really wierd. Another thing, someone mentioned that the blue's left arm looks stiff, and I see that now too...looks kinda "Barbie-ish". Any suggestions on how I can fix that? I thought maybe if I extended her arm up a bit and cupped her hand around the blond's shoulder. The finished piece is going to have a lot of post work...I thought it would be a nice touch to add to the blue's hair and have it partially frame them in a wavy, floaty, sort of way.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2000 at 8:54 PM

Aha! I got it! It's where the shoulder meets the collar - they've separated due to twist and bend settings, etc. That's the only thing I can think of. Betcha that's the problem. I'd zoom in on that section and rework the pose a bit. Should fix it right up. Kate

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2000 at 9:13 PM

Oh wow! Yeah! That does look like the collar...THanks! I still wonder why it doesn't show up in normal viewing though...just in render...could it be the camera hither?

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 18 September 2000 at 10:15 PM

Probably. You might want to look at it before rendering and after from another camera angle just to make sure that's the problem.

The "read me" files that comes with these characters says to contact them for any commercial project. I'm fairly sure that one of these was used in a Sony advertising project so you may have trouble, all depends on their agreement with the ad agency. They may have sold "exclusive" rights to Sony so please check.

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 19 September 2000 at 9:07 AM

Thanks willf, I went to PoserFactory last night (it's been/being updated and overhauled...you should check it out!)and read the site copyright info...then followed directions...I'm waiting to hear back from them. That was Nene that was used in the Sony ad, these are different models, and they have also been morphed so they don't even look like the originals. I chose these models to work with because they are so well made, and the MTs that come with them makes them so easy to pose realistically. Ever notice how Posette's eyes slant when you try to close them? These don't do that, and the expressive morphs, and phenomes are fantastic. I would gladly pay a liscencing fee to be able to use these models in commercial images...I just can't afford much :( ::keeping my fingers crossed::

bloodsong ( ) posted Tue, 19 September 2000 at 6:06 PM

heyas; is nene/linlin (whoever that one is on the left) re-proportioned or morphed in the body/chest/collar/arm areas? if so, that could be causing the weird jaggy points sticking out in render. they might even be back faces of, i dunno, a back part of the shoulder sticking out due to some weirdness in the proporions and jp's. if you want to make the arm/hand less barbie-ish, try doing something with the hand pose to make it less static. perhaps move the middle and ring fingers together closer, or curl the ring/pinky fingers more than the first two, or place her thumb against the other's arm. something (it doesn't have to be major) in the hand to personalize it, rather than being a standard hand pose.

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 19 September 2000 at 7:43 PM

It did turn out to be the collar, as Kate suggested, and since that arm doesn't really show in this pic anyway, I just adjusted it a little and it's fine now. I also brought the left (our right) one's arm up a bit and have her hand carressing the blond's shoulder, with her fingers slightly grasped, and her thumb positioned differently. That made a huge difference. I think I have to change the lighting though...the blond is going to wear a white tux, and those lights are going to make it look purple.

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 19 September 2000 at 7:44 PM

Too bad too, cuz I really like the lighting and the way it reacts with the blue hair..it sort of glows...but in a good way

Yamato ( ) posted Thu, 21 September 2000 at 9:58 PM

Momcat, I haven't recieved the mail from you yet, but I understand what you want. You can sell the products printed my characters images without any monetary reward. In this case, I request you the final images that you are going to use before sale. If you have any questions, mail me directly. The jaggies aren't avoided so far as we pose them in Poser. You have better to remove the meshes in other modeller after posed them or re-touch the images in photo re-touch software, I think.

Momcat ( ) posted Fri, 22 September 2000 at 11:01 AM

Thank you so much for responding>^^< I sent the email to
Two-Sword via Poserfactory, so maybe it got lost or he(she?) hasn't
had a chance to forward it yet. I sent you another mail this
morning through Renderosity. I will be very happy to send you the
final images. I hope you will like them >^
