Subject: A different problem with Sara's hands

I've been using Sara quite extensively and I've been having a problem with her hands - her ring fingers to be exact. I did the hand fix DarkWhisperer suggested for the messed up right hand - but this problem affects both the fixed and the original Sara. When the hands are selected and the 'grasp' dial turned, this 'spiky' thing projects from her ring finger. When the individual finger is manipulated, the spiky thing is still there - its almost as if a piece of the mesh is somehow stuck in place. Here are two images for examples. Any help would be greatly appreciatd (I emailed DarkWhisperer as well, but I thought if someone else could help, I shouldn't limit my options). -T

This looks as if the joint parameters aren't quite right for that joint. If you try adjusting the size of the spherical fall-off zone you should be able to bring it into line.

Either that, or a few polys aren't grouped properly.

Has anyone else had this problem? I find it suspicious that I've not been able to find any posts here, at DAZ or at 3dUniverse that addresses this issue (I did find a couple that brought it up - but nothing that said - 'oh yeahm its [blah] here's the fix). Maybe I'll redownload Sara and reinstall her and see what is what. Thanks for the really quick replies!!

I have this problem also. Haven't had a chance to get to the bottom of it and I haven't seen any discussion of it either.

That definitely looks like polygons not in any group.

In UV Mapper, you should be able to select the finger in question "by group" and see the hole. Then you could select those polygons and add them to the proper finger group, and resave the obj file.

UVMapper scares me.. there are so many options on save and I have no idea which to choose. But thanks for the suggestion. Next month I'll be able to afford Autogroup Edit and I should be able to re-group it with that - the updated version of AEG will load Sara. Thanks again!

Those are not ungrouped polys, that is a fault in teh spherical fall off, just make the size of the fall off ever so slightly larger, and it should work fine.

Less filling! Tastes great! :D I'll look at the spherical fall of first - thats something I can do without spending money. I just re-installed Sara as well. Its a long shot - but maybe someone at DAZ actually took the time to fix her (even though she's a freebie). Again, my thanks!

For the purposes of Poser, any model saved in either UV Mapper Pro or the free version of UV Mapper should be saved with only two options checked:

Export Materials

and

Export UV Coordinates

Yep, mine does it too. Never noticed before. Classic zone setup problem (he said airily :-)). Here's what worked for me, though I haven't time to test it thoroughly: Open the joint editor on the left ring finger joint 1 - select bend - and increase the innerMatSphere zScale from 0.5 to 0.6. You need to click on the dial and type in the number directly to get the precision.

EnglishBob posted Mon, 15 March 2004 at 6:24 PM Online Now!

While you're JP-ing, do the same to the side-side innerMatSphere (increase from 0.5 to 0.6). The same problem occurs when using the spread dial.

The re-install worked and fixed the problem (and the original hand problem). I guess someone at DAZ did take the time to correct it. Thanks everyone!!

Migal posted Mon, 15 March 2004 at 6:43 PM

hehehehe... Always the simple thing, I guess.

libernull posted Mon, 15 March 2004 at 7:33 PM

simple is always preferred in my book! I'm just surprised I did not find a post about the fact that DAZ fixed the problems with an updated install. I must have read every single thread that had 'Sara' in it from every forum I could find. Ah well - if someone else has the same problem, hopefully they'll see this thread. :)

LOL @libernull comment. Looking through the Daz forums is about as confusing to me as the first day of High School Geometry. [I never did figure that out either!]

Oh, they fixed it? I have been wondering about that lack of feedback concerning this as well. Looks like I have to download Sara again, huh?
