A "Princess Phone." Got a picture the wife is working on and she needs a princess phone with a long receiver cord. And it's got to be free. Any suggestions?

Not sure what a princess phone is, but SAMS3D has an oldfashioned phone. Perhaps you can use that?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

A princess phone is also called a "slimline" phone." Gotta be the princess because it's being used by a teen princess..another one of those wonderful pix the wife does based around our daughters and the attitude that goes with the teen years. Thanks!

Hi there. I just whipped this up in 3dsmax. It's not a dead-on likeness but will it suffice?

Wow Nukem you beat me to it :) In any case it looks better than my attempts! Stunning likeness if you ask me :)

Thanks for the compliments, ernyoka! :)

The model still needs some more details, some tweaking, some texturing and of course there's the conversion to Poser...

I haven't made a whole lot of Poser characters or posable props. The handset cord might give me some trouble when I try to Poser-ize it. Not exactly sure how to approach it, especially if I want to take into account morphs/scaling to stretch out the cord...

cedarwolf:

Can you give me some more details on how the phone is going to be used in the image?

Okay, I just tweaked the shape of the phone a bit...

Princess Phone WIP2

Gonna start work on the handset cord now...

Princess Phone WIP 3

Another progress image... Almost there... Just need to do detail tweaking, texture it, add 'button depression' morph targets, make the cord posable and stretchable... Okay, perhaps not quite 'almost' there. :-P

Keep an eye out in the Free Stuff and I'll post a Poser forum announcement too...

WOW, that's amazing! ....I don't have any idea how to model so please forgive me if I step on any toes. I mention this because I don't know if it's an oversight or if it's just more trouble than it's worth to change...

nukem posted Mon, 22 March 2004 at 2:31 PM

It's not an oversight. The truth of the matter is that I'm not a particularly skilled modeller. Getting an exact likeness of an object is a little beyond me right now as my knowledge of the various 3d modelling construction methods is currently a little limited. I think if I had more NURBS experience, I probably could nail it.

I thought that maybe the person requesting the file would be satisfied with a freebie that was a reasonably close facsimile.

Princess Phone WIP 4I've tweaked the handset again based on your observations. The shape still isn't dead-on. I think I'd have to start the whole thing from scratch to really get it, but I think the tweak still resulted in an improvement over the last version. I think I could be tinkering with this thing for weeks. :)

I have to say it again: I't an amazing job you've made so far!

I don't think you need to tinker anymore...I think it looks perfect now...that last tweak was dead on! Gosh, I think you've done an outstanding job!!

nukem posted Mon, 22 March 2004 at 8:01 PM

Thanks! :) It think it looks more like a proper handset now. Okay, now for the hard part... Getting everything to work in Poser! nukem
