Three musical performers at the NY Renaissance Faire. Please take note of the musician on the left and wearing a blue velvet doublet ... I recognized it as having been made by Leslie Harris of Noblesse Oblige http://www.noblesseoblige.biz/ Checking her catalog, it seems to be a Medici doublet -- about $800. Isn't history fun when played this way?

Oh yes, History is very fun when played this way. In fact, the person with the blonde hair in the picture is a friend of mine. She was sitting on my left. I remember seeing these musicians. lol Thanks for the memory!

Very nice picture, AntoniaTiger ... did you take it at the Pennsic War?

And here we see the glorious sight of the Roman Army on manouvres.

Ignoring that there are Roman Legionaires in a Renaissance thread (hehehe ... sorry, couldn't resist). I dunno, I guess I could find a bunch of guys in skirts and cute little sandals running around carrying large fallic items to be scary; especially if they're looking at me. :) I think I find the guys in the segmentata to be a bit more butch, I mean, intimidating than the guys in the hamata. -=>Donald

@Donald ... Oh, I have seen them at Pennsic for the last few years -- I'll get some pictures at Pennsic XXXIII in August. But I won't laugh at them -- I want to get home in one piece. ... Thanks for the questions. Those "skirts" are actually tunics (tunica) Those sandals are authentic looking Caligae. Here are some links ... "Mostly harmless" LOL Misha, At Pennsic, did you atttend any parties? ... Any classes? MGD

Misha883 posted Thu, 25 March 2004 at 9:40 PM

It was one continuous party as near as I can tell. We were part of Duke Lauralin's camp. I did take in some of the kilt wrapping and time-piece classes.

It was one continuous party as near as I can tell. That certainly confirms that you were there. LOL The parties do shut down by 4 or 5 AM. (usually) > I did take in some of the kilt wrapping and time-piece classes. That's good -- IIRC, there were about 800 classes offered that Pennsic. I gave each of my 4 classes twice. MGD

Well, these guys were at Lincoln Castle, a place which, while not actually Roman, is on the site of the Legionary Fortress. Not Pennsic.

DHolman posted Fri, 26 March 2004 at 4:38 AM

Antonia - these guys are very authentic looking (at least, to my novice's eye). Even down to the doubling on the hamata. Sigh...takes me back to my youth. I use to collect weapons and armor from all over. Had a replica Pilum. It was very authentic. Too authentic. My stupid cousin threw it like a spear before I could stop him. Shaft bent like a #*$&#;($&(# and never looked right again. :/ Still regret selling all of it before moving to Seattle. Even my beloved Daisho set. It had a beautiful, slight blue tinge to the metal and the hamon was so sweet ... it looked like waves rolling across the blade. I should have kept it. Along with my Danish longbow (weird story behind that, short version - found it in a corner at an underground flea market in Pennsylvania) and also I had a Greek Kopis (that thing just radiated an aura of nastiness). Sigh. -=>Donald

I think this was the cutest guy I saw in a long time at a Ren Fair.
