I'm thinking of getting the DAZ Gorilla, but before I spend $28 (after my platinum discount), I want to get some feedback on the quality of the base model and some suggestions for other products that will make it look more "real". I ask because this looks to be one of their older models. It also looks like their's is the only Gorilla "on the block". I thought Debra Ross or Lyne might have one, but they don't.

Hi The gorilla isnt that old. I think its a very good model and can look pretty real. Its the best Gorilla model I'm aware of. I did a few images with it when it came out, theres one of them in my gallery. Its one of those models I intend to do more with when I have the time.

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

That's the Gorilla's default color, btw :)

I have the gorilla and he is rather good. The textures are realistic and he poses nicely. There are even a huge bunch of free poses for gorilla and humans in the Daz archives. He actually takes human poses quite well too - and if you have Mimic, get him to say the 'Burbled' speech that comes with it - bloody hilarious! Oh yes, I had sea monkies. One turned green! They didn't look like the pictures on the packet though!!!

IIRC you missed out if you didn't get the LE version of the gorilla! Even that (though I've long since upgraded to "the real thing") looks pretty good IMHO. Textures are a bit of an issue - the one that comes with the full product isn't startlingly realistic IMO (though pretty good - depends how close you want to get!) and unusually none of the freebie efforts really tickle me pink. IIRC his mesh is based on the Michael 1 mesh, so while he isn't terribly compatible with that figure it should give you an idea as to his age (about June 2002 I think) and level of complexity/detail. Cheers, Cliff
