Toon shading with textures. It works well with comic book and anime-style coloration. (Yes, there's finally a use for gaudy clip art!) ;-)

Yes, this isn't the world's best texture, but it should give an idea of what I am talking about.

If there's interest, I'll post this as a material with a dummy texture so people can easily substitute their own. Any textures you make and save as a material using my dummy as a base can distributed as you like. (If anyone wants the texture for the Xena Anime Magik set, I'll toss that in as well.)
