Amicus. My question relates to my beloved Photoshop indirectly. Within the graphic activity any user from time to time can be in need to make screen capturing. The problem is as follows: I use a couple of progs to make screen shots: Screen Capture by Denega and Quick Screen Capture by EtruSoft. Screen shooting any graphic formats is OK. But if I try to capture the video fragments, both from CD or hard disc, the resulted image looks like a black field. Pls, advise me the way to solve this problem! Good luck.

I used to get the black field if I tried to capture an image from a built in DVD player on my PC. There's a reason for the black field which I can't explain. I started to use WinDVD from www.intervideo.com and now I can get perfect captures from any DVD.

PS: The black screen is because most dvd/video players play the video in a hardware overlay(kind of like another screen playing on top of your screen) what you are actually capturing is the overlay key colour(black usually). For example if you have Winamp the visualizations can be played full screen in overlay mode(temporarily changes the desktop background colour, then plays on the desktop) which uses less system resources than full screen. Some graphics cards will let you disable 'Hardware acceleration', which should force the player to play in regular Windows desktop, instead of in a hardware overlay. A lot of the time though, the player just won't play!
