Grrr....since I can't export my bone structures or IK solvers from 3ds max to Poser, I've been trying to figure out how to create them in Poser. In the hierarchy editor, there is a create IK option, buit it's never selectable. I can't find any decent tutorials on creating HI or IK solvers in Poser. Can anyone at least point me in the right direction?

Scroll to the bottom of the hierarchy list and highlight "IK Chains" to enable the Create IK Chain button.

Click the button to create a new IK chain. Give it a name.

Drag-and-drop body parts in the hierarchy list onto the new chain. The cursor will change from an X to a checkmark to indicate that you can drop the part there. Start with the base of the chain and work your way out to the end (or goal).

Repeat as necessary until all the elements in the chain are built.

OK, I've had enough of this! LD, which of the many "camera" type programs are you using to snag your PC usage as tutorial animations? Cheers, Cliff

I'm using Paint Shop Pro's capture function. I hear that WinGrab is nice, though.

You can do screen grabs with Windows Media Encoder, as well. And it's free. -- CM

The New IK Chain option is not selectable when I open the Hierarchy Editor (as I've already stated). What am I doing wrong? -- CM

OK I got it to come up; but I can only get it to appear with figures; how would I apply IK (or any joint structure) to object sets that I imported from .3ds format? -- CM

who3d posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 3:42 PM

make figures out of them?

Little_Dragon posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 3:52 PM

As far as I know, IK chains only work with posable figures.

crash_matrix posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 4:47 PM

Fair enough; can a poseable figure be created in Poser [or in 2ds and impoted into Poser]? How? -- CM

Well don't just leave us in suspenders! tell us what you did! Sheesh! I hate when people leave me wondering what the prize at the bottom of the ceral box was!

Oh; good show. I'm still working on how to make multiple chains of objects as single figures (giving me trouble...grrrr....), but what i did was create an object in 3DS Max, export it to 3ds format. Then I imported in Poser, opened the hierarchy window, clicked the object, and chose "Create new Figure". Then it can be pulled from the "New Figures" Portion of the Figures menu. That way, I can create a new file, and open the figure from New Figures, and apply IK. I am having trouble chaining them together and saving as a single figure, though. Grrrr.... -- CM

It was an official Captain Midnight decoder badge.
