If I'm jumping to conclusions feel free to shut me up, but I can't be the ONLY person that noticed this.
DAZ's April Fools release of the Millenium Cube has an image in the popups of "The Girl", the figure that created the female toon craze in Poser land and has been the subject of numerous threads. I don't have the link offhand, but it was over at CGTalk originally if I'm not mistaken.
For those who've browsed the Members Only forum, a thread was posted announcing the cube and included the same image... and there was a response from "kgoosens" with the title "DAZ Brokered Artist" mentioning that the image wasn't supposed to be shown...? The artist of "The Girl" is Kim Goosens, and I'm thinking there's some secret with a leak in it...
I just wanna know if anybody else saw it, and jumped to the same conclusion I did. Don't come after me with flaming torches and pitchforks, okay?

o.o I've seen the pic... and having seen interviews of Kim Goosens, and seen what that person's goals are for The girl, I doubt it vry much... It may be another April Fool's joke...
Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!
AlteredKitty posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 5:06 PM
I think she was annoyed that DAZ was using the image. (It actually wasn't DAZ but it did appear in their forum.) In interviews, she has always stated that 'The Girl' was a personal thing and never intended for release anywhere...
Fashionably_Late posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 5:15 PM
I read the interviews too, and heard a bunch of people tried to get it Poserized with no luck, so normally I'd agree with you guys... But why else would kgoosens have the title "DAZ Brokered Artist"?
AlteredKitty posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 5:17 PM
Oooooh! I didn't notice that. Curiouser and curiouser...
DefaultGuy posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 5:19 PM
Need to clear something up here. Kim Goosens is a dude.
DefaultGuy posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 5:26 PM
One more thing that might help clarify things. His last name is actually spelled Goossens. :) Happy April 1st!
wolf359 posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 6:49 PM
Goosens IS Not a DAZ brokered artist. that image of the girl is part of the joke of the millenium cube morphing into anything including the coveted goosens "girl" he( goosens) has worked fora few high-end film companies etc. and from his statements. over at CG networks he considers the poser community to be largely a bunch of soft core pornographers. in my opinion the Alexa Model at 3D commune is as good as the gossens model and probably more versatile. so instead of wishing and speculating about the bally-hooed gossens girl coming to pose/DAZ i suggest you get the Alexa model I like it alot
Fashionably_Late posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 6:58 PM
Um, I wasn't trying to whine about getting "The Girl" made for Poser. And I have Alexa, I agree its a great model. Honestly, I think there are plenty of toon gals on the market already, I just thought this situation was curious even for an April Fool's joke. -M

Saw the popup, had exactly the same reaction. "Woah coming to Daz? Brokered Artist? Another copyright infringment? wha gives" shrug I absolutly HATE april fools, and the jokes that follow. My mouse was glued to my desk this morning. I was not amused.

Regarding The Statement: from his (goosens) statements, over at CG networks he considers the poser community to be largely a bunch of soft core pornographers.... WELL CAN WE BLAME HIM?? JUST LOOK AT LETS SAY POSER "HAIR" OR "SHOES" FOR SALE YOU WILL SEE A NUDE, AND IN SOME CASES CLOSE UP NUDE WOMAN, TO MARKET HAIR OR SHOES?,I HAVE EVEN SEEN THIS WITH PROPS! I FEEL THIS TYPE OF STUFF CHEEPENS US AND TAKES AWAY FROM THE SERIOUS AND BEUTIFUL CREATIVE WORK THAT THE TALENTED POSER COMUNITY DOES DO. SINCERLY, kim258

"I FEEL THIS TYPE OF STUFF CHEEPENS US AND TAKES AWAY FROM THE SERIOUS AND BEUTIFUL CREATIVE WORK THAT THE TALENTED POSER COMUNITY DOES DO." Not that I actually do cheap softcore porn in Poser (or expensive hardcore porn for that matter), the reason all the sexy hair and naughty shoes and whatnots are sold is because people BUY them. If you're a merchant out to make money, you sell what people buy. I agree with Mr. Goossens, but I don't find anything wrong with people doing images of that type either. I like making toony elves and cute catgirls and oiled, muscley warriors. Some people like naked, heaving breasts. Whatever floats your boat.
kim258 posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 11:21 PM
Oops, didnt mean that to be yelling, I only brought up the needless nudity because it
s been on my mind and wondered if I was the only one feeling bumbarded with it when I look through merchants items for sale : ) well, i`ll be brave and at the risk of prooving my gullibleness, i fell for it hook, line and sinker! sincerly, kim258
Fashionably_Late posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 11:31 PM
Yeah when products like "Magic G" are constantly in the top 10 best sellers, its a little hard to deny that much of the Poser community is rather fixated with "fantasy" images. I don't mean fantasy like Lord of the Rings, I'm referring to the male fantasy of buxom women that they can control to their hearts' (or other parts, as the case may be) content. Not my bag either, but I'm not going to tell people what they should or shouldn't do with Poser. And nudity I don't have a problem with, after spending 6 hours at a time staring at a nude person in art school you get pretty accustomed to it. Now having detailed genital props for sale on a site that claims to be "family oriented" is another story... but I won't go there for now. -Molly

LOL isn't it funny how a person who actually inspired a lot of what's been created in the poser community recently tries to distance himself from it so he can be considered a "real artist". It's quite obvious he hasn't taken a lot of time to look through the galleries, it's as if he's looked at a few of the more obvious naked vicky pictures & tarred the entire poser community with the same brush. Yes I agree there are lots of pictures of naked female pixels but if you filter it out then you'll find some really talented people creating art that puts his little doll totally in the shade.

Who knows what might happen. He is looking for some kind of morph program that Daz used to have. Might want to read the thread. It's in the common forum. I don't know what it is, so I can't help there. Maybe one of you might know. I didn't buy the mil cat/dog/soon to be horse. I would buy "The Girl."
Fashionably_Late posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 2:38 AM
I don't think the author of that thread in the Commons is really him, unless he misspelled his own last name. The username he posted with in the Members forum is "kgoossens" and has the title DAZ Brokered Artist.
hauksdottir posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 4:55 AM
That cube is a DAZ original... right? So that image of "The Girl" is perfectly legal to swipe as clipart. I'm not interested in the model, it is too toonish and too attuned to a male fantasy of plastic dollies. However, if the artist isn't going to release her, regarding her as a personal ceation, then his copyrights have been more than slightly trampled by the release of the images on a DAZ product page. Even for a joke, that is inexcusable. Carolly
Tashar59 posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 6:08 AM
yeah, My mistake, wrong nick. Time for some sleep. I agree about the image copyright issues. Very strange and why the link to the mil cube through his nick.
Caly posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 8:34 AM
She's not in the ClipArt section, so no you can't grab her. I'd buy 'The Girl' in a heartbeat. Alexa's nice, but she just doesn't compare. I think the NefToon girl is a little closer.

I don't purchase cartoon characters, so "The Girl" isn't on my list.
Frankly, "The Girl" is one of those phenomena........the popularity of which is a mystery to me. Kind of like Madonna. Or Survivor.
These things don't interest me in the slightest.
XENOPHONZ posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 9:13 AM
One other thing -- if Mr. KG intends to use "The Girl" to make lots of money, then he had best strike the iron while it's still hot. Madonna's CD's don't sell like they used to. Put "The Girl" on DAZ now, and Mr. KG might be able to retire.

Capitalism. I'm all for it. If Mr. G can make lots of money with this, then more power to him.
Just a few stick-in-the-muds - like me - won't be jumping onto the bandwagon.
I shudder at the thought of the galleries being overrun with "G.I.R.L." renders. Zillions and zillions and zillions of them.
This might replace "Victoria in a temple with a sword" as the Poser cliche of choice.

Yes, and wouldn't it be amusing if the market is already so flooded with "girls" (ye gods and fishes, I HATE using that diminiutive to describe a mature female) that this one just vanished into the soup and got ignored? If an artist already has 3-4 of them, and their wardrobes, why should they shell out even more cash? Bragging rights is a powerful motivator, but it is powerful enough? Meanwhile, DAZ will most likely leverage this 6 ways from Sunday, while assuring the artist that it will somehow benefit him. If thousands of people rightclicked that promo shot... why would they need to actually buy anything? Carolly

Carolly, because The Girl is The Original, she is in some way the mommy of them all - Sara, Alexa and Neftoon Gal.
But to be honest, I am not really sure if I really would want The Girl to become available. You know, there is nothing more attractive than something you cannot have. Who knows, maybe she will loose her magic once we can all put her into our libraries ...

Well.. Well ...Well. Wonders never cease :-)!!! On july 5 2003 goosens was asked about releasing the model for sale etc. and he responded : {" if I do this i'm afraid some people are going to spread some vulgar images and animations of her. She is not intended for such content. The short I'm going to create with her is an attempt to create a subtile erotic story"}. Now six months and a cover story on 3D world later, he is ready to turn his "baby" over to $$babylon$$ and become a brokered artist for DAZ3D I say more power to the guy I hope he does well with his Daz product line.

I'm not all the interested, first pass. First, there's the attitude Kim has had against this market. I don't care if he has that attitude -- lots of people do; I ignore them -- but to sell out when the paycheck gets big enough doesn't impress me. Or did he decide he hadn't been fair and the gross generalizations weren't just? I don't know; I haven't read anything either way. Second, I don't think she's going to Poserize well. I understand Kim went to a lot of work and tricks to bone her in an unusual way, so that she would move as he wanted. Poser isn't as flexible as Lightwave and Max. On the other hand, maybe there's something in Studio she'll take advantage of. Mostly, though, she's too distinctive for the work I prefer to do. That's great as a character, but I want generic figures. The more flexible, the better. I generally am trying to recreate my own written characters when I work. I've gotten OK results putting one of those characters into the anime doll, but I'm still trying to Koshini her, and I don't think "The Girl" would take her at all. We'll see. They might do something that changes my mind.
