Can anyone point me to a list of programs that support multi-threading? I know Poser 4 probably doesn't, hoping Poser 5 does. Would like to get a clue on it before I open and install the new motherboard and cpu I just picked up. I don't think this is off topic as I'm most interested in the Poser 5 running on it more effectively...hope hope! O.o Thanks, Marque

Hi, Marque. Unfortunately, Poser 5's code doesn't support multi-threaded/hyper-threaded CPUs and dual CPU systems so you won't get much of a performance boost. I have a 2.4gHz hyper-threaded Pentium (1Gb dual channel RAM) and about the only noticeable boost in performance I've seen in Poser is that shadow maps are calculated just a little faster prior to rendering and the GUI is a bit more responsive. But I haven't noticed any significant reduction in rendering times overall.

Thanks, guess I will install it anyway, but wondering about the ram, not sure I have dual channel. How can you tell? Thanks, Marque

i have a new one 2,8 gHZ multi threaded P4 but i think the most difference (more speed, more models in the same time, etc ) is coming from two dual channel DDR 400 memory chips for a total of 2 gig of ram.See in your motherboard documentation for dual channel support and on your bill if the store give you these memory chips

Well it's working with the ram I had and good thing too, couldn't afford to buy ram too. Intel 2.8 XP pro seems to be utilizing the multi/hyper threading. Thanks for the info, will hopefully upgrade to 400 next month, using DDR 333 now. Marque
