Could someone who has the new horse post some images showing the model? DAZ, in it's infinite wisdom, failed to show anything other than the very limited promo pics. No pop up boxes at all! The promo pictures are suspect to me because they show extremely little ear movement and the one image with the neck down has the neck covered by the mane. Before I plunk down money I want to see what kind of updates they made in the way of body group. How many neck segments are there now? Are the ears a separate group? etc... If all they did is add a bunch of breed morphs to the Charger model, then package it as new and improved, I'll skip it as a sucker deal. I've already got tons of great stuff for the stock horse and Charger that more than fits the bill. Any help from you fine folks would be appreciated. I was sorely disappointed in the dog model (the feet alone are awful!) and want to avoid any new drek DAZ dishes out.

I'd like to see how the legs look now. I've only seen a few pictures since they decided to fix them, and I was still on the fence. The promo pics don't show them well. I'm also curious about the neck, as TygerCub said.
movida posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 7:27 AM
I don't think they moved the knees down - look at the few pieces of the DAZ advert where legs are barely visible (that alone is suspect). I looked at it last night and noticed no pop ups either.

I know this will be a dumb question but do any of our old Horse Poses still work? Thanks, Beth
Lunaseas posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 8:15 AM
No, I've tried applying the P4 horse poses with the horse and they do not work.(this was tested in P5) However they do include some good basic poses with the horse. True the neck is not all that different, but the use of the head alone with it's expressions makes it much better than the charger or the P4 horse.
Schlabber posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 8:23 AM
Well - lol - the old poses don't work ? Than I'm in (giggle) Any poses wishes ? By the way: EdW thx ... I know it's not your fault - but this grazing horse looks terrible.

The textures I've looked at so far are pretty good too. The only quibble so far is that the veins are quite strong on some, so they're not good for a horse in winter coat (when the veins wouldn't show), and I'm not sure they look quite right on the foal.

When are we going to get the Millenium wildebeest?
movida posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 9:59 AM
well he looks good enough for me to go get him, thanks guys for the pictures. Another horse, my God how am I going to feed him? (a recurring refrain around here)
Marque posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 10:00 AM
You'll need to get the stable from Sams3D now...lol Marque

With that emaciated morph, we can finally have a horse looking dead enough to beat! ;-) ;-) ;-) Sincerely, Bill

HaiGan - at least some of the veins are bump maps, so you can turn them down or remove the veins entirely. And, yep, one of the first things I thought of was making an improved "beating a dead horse" picture. ;-)

Just finished downloading him. Have to go to town and won't be able to play until late today. I'm not satisfied with his legs (but I knew that going in) and the ads look rubber legged to me in the rearing poses. oh well. Marque: I've had the stable for some time already but haven't used it. s

I think the horse looks really nice with the textures on it especially. I was wanting to do a conforming hair fiure but couldn't get the joints to work do you the set up, and then the conforming was a problem with the slaved scale dials. If anyone who is making conforming stuff finds a way around that please share info. it would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards, Anton

"When are we going to get the Millenium wildebeest?" If you're serious, there's a terrific wildebeest morph and texture in the DAZ Antelope Expansion Pack, which I believe is not really an expansion back of the buck, but actually a stand-alone product. You might want to verify that with DAZ before making the purchase, but I can vouch for the expansion pack in general, it's fantastic. I can post a wildebeest render later tonight if anyone really wants to see. Dean

Anyone else have trouble downloading the files? I emailed Daz3d and hope they contact me soon. When I downloaded the three files, they had a different name that the file names that are listed on my account page and are not executable files. I tried to rename them to "dot exe," but it didn't work.(I purchased the bundle, by-the-way).
Crescent posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 2:58 PM
Don't rename the files. From the product page: Product Installers PC You will need all three installers to install this product. Place them both in the same folder before running. The installer will reference the secondary and tertiary support files(.002, .003) on installation. PC Download Size: 34.00 Mb PC Part2 Download Size: 34.00 Mb PC Part3 Download Size: 0.39 Mb Product Installers MAC You will need both files to install this product. Thanks to everyone who replied and posted pictures. Despite the nice textures and re-worked face, I really am disappointed in the lack of attention to neck articulaiton. I was really hoping DAZ would pay attention this time and do more than surface/cosmetic work on the model before throwing it to their consumers. Yes, the face is better and the ears 200% better!... but to be honest, all the Mil horse appears to be is a morph of the Charger, which was a morph of the original horse figure. IF the pictures posted by HaiGan are any indication (and not just a missed dial setting), DAZ didn't even bother to look at breeds to create their morphs. Merely resized areas of the body. Sorry, but that's the sorriest looking Arabian I've ever seen. And that Zebra morph looks NOTHING like a zebra. The best true morph I can see in those images is the mule. Oh well. Disappointment in DAZ has become a reoccuring theme lately. I think I'll stick with Bloodsong's Heavy Horse and wait and see what their competition puts out there in the way of animals. I'm patient.
movida posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 5:10 PM
Tyger: I suspected that it was a re-work of the P4 horse because of the same defect in the rear fetlock/pastern joint. I just got back and will now install the beast and see what gives. I didn't buy it because I thought it was extraordinary, I bought it to study the jp's :)

Yikes. EdW's reworked horse looks better grazing than this one, IMO. I really don't like that neck.
compiler posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 7:09 PM
In post 10 the head never changes. This gives a strange look : arabians, shetlands and donkeys have very different heads ! Is it a mistake in making the image, or do you have to buy the horse + maps + body mophs + head morphs like for the 3rd generation Mil figures ? The DAZ site only mentions a single product for the horse (+2 for textures). On the good side, it is mimic compatible. Mister Ed anyone ?
movida posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 7:59 PM
I just now did 1 render and played maybe 1 minute with the settigs. I noticed the lack of real breed morphs in the pics but haven't gotten that far yet. This pic is the 1 minute tweak of the hind leg settings. I think he's worth buying.
I haven't played with his front end yet (had to re download)
but I'm happy with his rear legs so far. :)

Regarding the morphs: that is NOT an arabian ... what on earth were they looking at? I was leery of coughing up cash for this nag when I didn't see pictures of the morphs. And now I can see why. As it is this beast wouldn't be allowed in the dressage stable I worked in as a teenager. Look at the back end , much to high. Bet this things gait is as rough as an old Chevy with no shocks. At a canter your teeth would go like castanets. Ehhh ... I think I'll wait to see if they can fix anything in a SR. Textures look lovely though. Shame .. I was loiking forward to a good zebra.
