Subject: Problem ... Morph Squishing 102 ... don't work as tutorial! hmmm

I have remove all lines as in tutorial: vn lines (Normals) vt lines (UV mapping lines) g lines (Grouping Data) usemtl lines (Material Data) mtlib lines (Material Library pointer lines) f lines (Face Data) and i have save only "v" lines but when i try to load my morph i read this message: Couldn't read the geometry file But if i delete all lines but don't delete the "v" lines AND "f" lines, the morph is ok .... ???!! where is my error ? thx for feedback ;-) Andygraph

Make sure you have the correct body part selected,perhaps.

If i use the v lines AND the f lines my morph work ! but the tutorial don't say about the "f" lines.. i have try to import this obj with "v" and "f" lines and i can't import it, infact it work only as morph target ;-)

I regularly use 'v' only OBJ files as morphs, and they have never failed to work yet... What model is your morph for? If I have it, I'll take a look at it for you if you want.

I have Victoria 1 also. If I look at your morph, I promise to delete it afterwards and not give it to anybody else. It depends if you trust me or not. I wouldn't. ;)

Got that. I ought to have said that I should be working, and don't have access to Poser until tonight (I'm on GMT+1). However I successfully opened both OBJ files in Anim8or - test1 is just a cloud of vertices of course, but test2 looks like an actual head. On comparing the files, their v lines are identical as far as I can tell. Assuming you don't get a 'wrong number of vertices' error, it /should/ work... What procedure are you using to apply the morph?

select the head and upload the morph ....simple

Simple, yes, but only if it works... :-) When I get home, I'll try your morph and report back. If it works for me, I'll prepare another morph in the same way and see if it will work for you. Hopefully we can locate the problem that way.

Andygraph's morphs worked for me, whether with v and f lines or with just v. The morph I sent back to him had v lines only, and worked for me obviously, but not for him. He's on a Mac. Any ideas?

Boy, is that helpful. Not. And the chances of CL going back to an old version of Poser to fix any bugs is minuscule. They can't even debug Poser 5. It beats me how they can break a feature like that, but it's not the first time that code that was fixed in one version became un-fixed in the next. :-( That seriously reduces our options for distributing morphs, since an OBJ with facet information left in will be in breach of copyright. The vertex-only form is generally accepted as being safe to distribute, since it's too much trouble to join all the dots together and make your own Vicki. :-) Maybe this explains why I've seen people sharing morphs as a CR2 'carrier', with which you have to use Morph Manager to copy the deltas into your own character CR2. Where did you find out about this, by the way?

this is a problem if you want sell MT for V1/2 to mac user without use "big" CR2 :-(

Just though of a possible workaround - what if you put in a single fake 'f' line? Try adding this after the 'v' lines: f 1/1 2/2 3/3 4/4 This might be enough to satisfy Poser that the file is genuine, but it won't harm the copyright situation.

Yeah. I'm supposing that Poser looks for 'f' lines when it opens an OBJ, to check whether it's valid or not. But there's nothing in the OBJ specification to say how many facets there are: one is a perfectly valid number. I'm hoping it will be enough to fool Poser's format checking routine.

Update (courtesy MarianneR): Squished morphs now work in the updated version of Poser5 (5.04) on the Mac.
